Description --
I'm sure most of you didn't know Witches and Sirens go way back. Two ancient groups who've mastered immortality and claim superiority over humans/mortals.

The relationship of these two powers are some what of a neighborly feud. Witches claim to own the land and Sirens bask in the sea. Obviously there are some boundary crossing as witches cross water and some sirens reside on land. The dispute may occur if paths are crossed.

Both sirens and witches are very prideful and the concept of "Labels" and "Class" is important to each. ESPECIALLY witches.
Witches basically run by titles and moving up on the chart of success and "wicked". The more dastardly you are (toward mortals) the more impressive you appear.

I'm going to give everyone a run-down on my head-canon on Zelda Witches. Since they do in fact play an important roll with 's sirens.

Witches are similar to sirens in a number of ways. They are very crude and ruthless. Some would say they're heartless, well that's because they are. Full blooded witches (immortally born) are born without hearts, but a dark matter-substance instead. It's like a permanent, genetic, spell passed down from the handful of first immortal witches. Unlike Sirens, Witches dont keep their young image through drinking the blood of humans. Their youth depends on the amount of immortal blood they were born with and/or how progressed they've become in their studies.(magic, spells, potions, ect) There is a gradual youth limit, every 10 years for an immortal is a physical 1 year for a witch. That's just for the youthful look, they could survive a long time if their immortal blood is strong, they have a ancestral deed to accomplish/ hold, or are not killed by an outside force.
Immortal Witches are VERY hard to kill when they've matured, but it is possible. Some witches can survive stabs, ripped limbs, you can even cut off their head. They'll survive if an old witch sews the limb back on. Like a rag doll. The easiest way to kill a witch is: To grind them to the point you cant sew them back together. Finding a source of weakness (Most have one or more). The obvious burning at the stake.

Most immortal witches acquire a certain "Talent" that no other witch can fully master. Don't mistake me, other witches can know some parts of a talent but they just can't be as mastered as another witch if the witch captured it first. Other witches can also not master talents that are passed through bloodline. For example: Dovey and Deserae are the decedents of Kotake and Koume, the witches of Ice and Flame. No other witch can fully possess the ability to control fire or ice because the creators/true masters of these elements have been passed through blood to Dovey and Deserae. (*Same goes for Esther and her dreams/dark sand talent because she's artificially formed to hold that mastery.XP) But something as simple as levitation can involve a handful of witches at a certain degree. Aggie can levitate herself, others, and objects. Deserae and kopso866 's Aren can only levitate themselves.
It's very complicated how skills work and they start from small to very well mastered when they grow older.

Now here's some similarities Witches have with Sirens:
They both have claws. Witches "claws" are not fingernails but hard bone/skin that extends over the nails and finger tips to a sharp point. Can leave marks in wood and cut flesh (not as sharp as Siren claws) (witch defense mechanism) (Witches are able to use claws when they start walking)
Both see themselves as superior over all mortals and the opposite race.
Both enjoy killing humans.

*A follow up on how witches treat humans, they dont go out and kill them every chance they get. Witches actually prefer to compromise with humans for business purposes. Witches are all about business and money. If one witch wanted to enslave and kill off all mortals, they would have to go through all of the other witches because no humans equals no profit.XD

** The relationship between Sirens and Witches are generally hateful meetings where the races try to assert dominance. The witches, however, have an upper hand when consulting sirens because of a..chemical reaction that occurs when they're in close contact. Naturally a witch projects ALOT of Negative Energy and this energy is what fuels and gives Sirens their rampage abilities. So during contact or when a witch is near a Siren will feel out of control as their teeth and claws grow against their will. This is generally rather alarming to sirens because they are unable to control themselves and if further interaction progresses, their eyes will go red and they will rampage on the nearest food source they can sink their teeth into. A Witch's Negative Energy makes Sirens blood thirsty. Perhaps even to a cannibalistic level. The rampant Siren wont always go after the witch that triggered them, but anything that's easy to get to. The siren loses all common sense and becomes wild. Like an animal.XD
At the moment there is no known knowledge if siren's aura affects witches at all. If there was, it's not as apparent as the siren's rampages.

I'm sure witches seem rather powerful from this rambled info, but honestly this comes as a disadvantage. Because of their powers and abilities, witches are heavily hunted in many parts of Hyrule and beyond that. So they prefer to stay masked or hidden among mortals for their own personal gains. Most mortals can tolerate witches and not turn them in/try to burn them if there is a successful business relationship or if they're doing no harm. (that can be proven)
---

And that is my Witch head-canon that I base my Witch OCs off of. The Siren/Witch relationship is accepted by so don't go around thinking I'm making this stuff up. XD She actually developed the idea via RP and Coral almost devoured Spirit because of Deserae.XD

NOW ABOUT THE PICTURE ITSELF- I drew child Esther and Nimue. My grumpy, antisocial, freaks of the Witch and Siren world.:"D

If anybody has any questions or need any clarification, don't be afraid to ask.

Enjoy~

Oh. Ha, I've changed the info since then.:T It depends on the witch.
Not all witches have special abilities and they're just average potion makers. Those are the witches who are more half immortal and age 1 year every 10.

if a full-blood witch is heartless can a half-blood witch have love in them?

Linkerbell In reply to hu-midna [2015-07-13 19:46:56 +0000 UTC]

Half blood witches are simply humans that have twisted impulses. They can't even do magic exactly. They could do magic TRICKs like any magician but they are hardly immortal. Yes they can love.xD

Aahhhhh

so i really feel like i wanna completely change my witch, and i was wondering if a witch of sickness or something like that would be alright? :0 what kind of powers would be acceptable and not too powerful? >w<
and since witches are business-like, would it be possible for her to pose as a sort of "doctor" that humans go to? And then she makes them "better" for a bit, but then some other symptom comes up so they keep coming back to her (and the price keeps rising?)
Or would that be a problem since if one didn't look into it more, it could appear she was actually helping them??

Or maybe a witch of laughter? :0 like she basically laughs hysterically in her victim's face til they go insane? : P
and then a lot less developed idea, but would a witch of something like mirages be possible? Like she tricks people's eyes into seeing stuff that's not there to freak them out..? x"D

Omg, sorry im throwing all my ideas at you ;;
tbh i've been thinking about your lovely witches for a while... X'D
Idk yet if i'm 100% sure of even going with any of these, since im a bit afraid of somehow completely going against your canon D x

A illness witch is interesting....
Oh yeah that makes a lot of sense!^^ She momentarily cures them but her curses gradually makes things worse.

I really like that laughter witch.OvO''

The mirage witch is possible as well.UvU

Oh, no need to apologize!!! I'm enjoying your ideas and Im ECSTATIC some people are thinking outside of the box for abilities instead of always relying on basic elements!
If you ever want to tell me more and ask questions as you develop them further, you're more than welcome to note me~

ToonMidna In reply to Linkerbell [2015-06-21 14:34:14 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! :0
x'D Exactly! She wouldn't kill them tho, since she wants them to come back x'D though if they're broke or can't give her anything more she just shrugs and is all like 'well theres nothing else i can do for ya'
I think her spells would work a lot slower than most though :0
Or depending on the spell it takes a certain amount of time?
Like, she could make someone sneeze on the spur of the moment, but giving someone bronchitis would take a few days?
And a real doctor would be able to heal them mostly, but there would always be some lingering effects :0
She wouldn't be able to kill anyone just by doing a spell, but if she does a strong enough one and leaves them, and they don't goto a doctor, they die x'D
and now because of that sneeze thing i almost see her as after 'work' she just walks around making random people sneeze x'DDD
how old do you think her physical age would be? :0

Omg, i'm so glad! x'D
I also see her as a younger witch :0 her mother didn't mean to have her, if you know what i mean aha.
And since her mother doesnt care, she doesnt either and rarely studies.
(later tho something happens that makes her want to be a powerful witch, but im still working that part out x'DD )

Ahhhhh im so happy that these ideas are possible x'D tbh i've had 'em for a while and i was kind of worried they wouldnt work : P

Omg ahh! ;w;
seriously tho, your whole witch thing is so exciting to me x'DD
And yeah i looked at a few of the comments below, and ahhhh gosh some of them are so unique! :0

Ahhh i'll definitely be sure to note you! <3

Could there be a witch that can manipulate blood?
And what about water witches since there are fire and ice witches?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Linkerbell In reply to Code-Sonic [2015-04-14 22:10:15 +0000 UTC]

Eh depends on how powerful the blood witch is. If she is to much of a nuisence for even humans, it would eventually hurt witch business and her own race will destroy her. It would be a very agonizing ability that would bite the blood witch in the butt often when she uses it.

Yeah there can be water witches but they cant change the water's temp. Just control like.....water thats around the area, they cant spawn water from nothing.

Whenever a witch focuses on one ability, they cant do many other spells so it depends on how powerful that ability is.

Linkerbell In reply to nekochibiclarechan [2015-01-17 19:28:52 +0000 UTC]

Uh wait... Are you saying your witch was once a human? Because young humans would NOT survive the induction. I'm talking the safest age is close to 20. Like 19 at minimal.
Immortal witches age physically the more studying and magic they learn. That's why most, including my flame witch, Deserae, choose to put their learning on hold around a desired age. Like she stopped improving her magic when she was physically around her late 20s. My ice witch, Dovey was inducted at age 19 and avoids practicing and studying her abilities so she's stuck around the physical age of 22 until she further continues her studies. Yet Deserae and Dovey were both born at the same time, Des appears older.

Not anyone can just decide their witch can be inducted. You'll probably have to consult me since I own the only witches that know how to preform the practice.

But yeah she's to young to even survive turning from a human to witch.:T If you want her at that age she'd have to be born a witch.

Sionari [2014-12-25 06:53:28 +0000 UTC]

I have a few questions to ask about this (and hopefully I'm not repeating any) so ...
1. I read in the comments that initiation from becoming mortal to immortal is very damaging. What happens during initiation (are they locked up to survive somewhere for years then released, are they forced to battle with magic only, are they painfully filled with special power to be immortal, etc.) and what kind of mental and physical damage is typical?
2. My main witch OC idea is a witch who controls light and is a descendant of the three Goddesses. Her abilities are shooting little golden lazers from her hands, making beams of light by forming a triangle with her hands where little golden 'stick figure creatures' walk forth and also shoot the lasers from their mouths, but fade quickly afterwards, and also making the beam but splitting the colors into red, yellow, and blue to shoot fire, ice, and sand beams from their mouths. She has a little bit of immunity to ice and fire, but not very much, and thrives in the desert due to so much sunlight. PLEASE make any corrections to her powers- I do not want to make her incorrectly!

Linkerbell In reply to Sionari [2014-12-26 05:57:05 +0000 UTC]

1. You are strapped down to a board and an elder will cut you open right below your rib cage. They will reach inside, underneath your ribs, extract your heart, then replace it with a dark substance, and you must stay conscious the WHOLE TIME. If you so much as pass out or even close your eyes to long you will be consumed by the substance and die. Even if the induction is completed and you have the dark substance inside you, you have a 60% chance of dying. The only chance you'd have is to have the faintest hint of witch blood in your veins by birth.
^ this is all possible IF an Elder witch agrees to induct you. In which majority doesnt take induction seriously and will just purposely kill them during the process and take their money. There are only 3 witches that know how to induct and I control all three.
The typical mental damage is, well the realization it can be a century before you wake up from the recovery. Everything/one you knew, is gone and changed. You're shoved into the cruel world of witchcraft, where MAJORITY of other witches will belittle you and take advantage of you because you were once a human. Physical damage includes a large disgusting scar from where the first cut was made under your ribs. Nausea for a while, it really depends on how the induction lasts. You'll be very weak for at least 8 months after waking up too, and I'm talking bedridden weak.

2. Nope. Witches cant descend from the three goddesses since the decedents are Nayru, Farore, and Din. That's basically just making another goddess. I'm sorry nearly every bit of her powers are god-modded and much to crazy powerful to be accepted to my head canon.
If she was to be as powerful to even conjure such powerful creatures, she would look like a raisin she'd be so old. The more powerful the witch means the longer they studied their abilities. The more you study the more skills you gain, the more skills lead to aging. That's why the Witch elders are so powerful because they are super old witches. The concept you've chosen for your witch is rather....large....I'd highly suggest toning down her powers A LOT because if a witch like that did exist, the elder witches and all of the powerful witches and minors would have tracked her down and destroyed her by now.

I hope this helped you. If you have any other questions or would like any help just ask.

Sionari In reply to Linkerbell [2014-12-26 12:29:19 +0000 UTC]

You helped a ton! Thanks, I thought I might be god-modding her. I have no idea how their powers work, so I didn't know she was too powerful, sorry. I think I'll go with my second idea, but I need help on this too. Its actually siamese twins; a boy and a girl, born witches. Their power is time; the girl can see into the past, and the boy, a little 'growth' on the side of the girl, can see into the future. They use their power to help save people from destruction; however, the girl uses most of her power to keep her brother alive (they share each others thoughts so she's quite attached) so they only ever share the future when the boy sends thoughts to the girl when it seems absolutely necessary. When this happens, the girl uses her power to see into the past, find the heart of the problem, and use that to find a solution. They live with a Sheikah witch for their mother, although they themselves are Gerudo, abandoned for their 'deformity'. They are 280 years old. (If this is still pushing it, can you please give me a more realistic idea of what the extent of their powers would be? I'm so sorry if I keep making them too powerful I'll also go into the Sheikah witch's power if you want me to. I just do not want to make a mary-sue/gary-stu.)

Linkerbell In reply to Sionari [2014-12-26 16:41:17 +0000 UTC]

Ooh! This is quite interesting indeed. I like these powers so far but just a warning, If other witches find out your twins are assisting and helping humans they will look down, bully, and isolate them.
Most older witches don't allow humane kindness towards mortals anyway, unless your Sheikah Witch and twins live very far away from witch civilization or high-populated areas. (if so then it sounds okay to me)
I'm thrilled you don't want overly powerful characters or mary-sues!^^ I understand 100% that you don't know what's acceptable and what's not in my witch canon so I'm not mad or anything if you ask for help.
In fact, I'm thrilled you came to me about this, and you have very nice ideas too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sionari In reply to Linkerbell [2014-12-29 04:41:59 +0000 UTC]

I understand the negative part when it comes to helping humans, and so since they are Gerudo and Sheikah, I figured they would live far away in the desert- which is where my Sheikah witch's power comes in. When any witch or unkind human comes near them, she uses her power of sand to make sand tornadoes to try and keep them from being found. They live in the center of four mountainous forms of sand, and the Sheikah will protect her adopted children from trespassers who may try to settle there by making the area look dangerous with her sand tornadoes. That's all she's able to do, though, because she wasn't born a witch, and it's why she was also living alone before taking pity on the pitiful looking twins and sheltering them. She's frustrated with her children because she herself dislikes humans and always discourages their 'fortune telling', but since she truly loves them, she can't bring herself to stay angry with them for long. Also, she is a descendant from the Sheikah race who served the Hyrulian royal family, and honestly feels some obligation because of that.
I'm glad the twins idea was better. I hope my Shiekah witch's powers are alright as well, and I'm happy you're willing to help me with my ideas. Thank you so much for that And sorry this explanation was scattered, this was a rough sketch for my Sheikah more than anything. It's so cool that you think I have nice ideas, though, thank you for that as well. Your witches are really amazing though; mine pale in comparison! I love 'em to death, though.

I absolutely couldn't resist joining in, to be honest; something about it just inspires me (and obviously others) to make characters for it. I think you should make some 101s; not only would it help in the future, but I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in learning more about witches. Aww you're so very sweet!^^ Well it's more like I didn't think about sharing my head-canon in the first place. But when someone started making a siren into a witch I was like "I HAVE TO LET THEM KNOW" because Dayo and I agreed witches and sirens are enemies and the whole ordeal with Coral and Dovey was already played out; we just didnt think others would merge the two races.XD
Hmmm I've been debating it. The knowledge on witches is much more complex and just...vast than the siren 101s.:"D
This took 4+ years of creating, scraping, and altering. I've just always kept it hushed for my OCs.XD

Also, we talked about the ''possible relation'' with witches too, but... How you have created the race, I need to know if you agree with a possible relation with your witches too.  The conversation is in the same picture if you want to read it.

Also, I need to tell to you that I love all your drawings and your witch concept is brilliant

Linkerbell In reply to CiraWasHere [2014-10-21 21:35:48 +0000 UTC]

Oh..well for one thing there are male fairies. They generally have darker pigments than female fairies in the Zelda universe. Tael from Majoras mask is a little boy fairy and Leaf from Phantom Hourglass is a male fairy.

As for relationship I have no clue.... I don't think witches would like them much. They'd probably perceive them as a sorry excuse of of a fairy/human hybrid or as some joke. I don't see them compatible at all. If anything Fairies of Happiness would be nothing but an irritation, picturing them much like useless mooches. Witches would probably either avoid them or kill them on sight because the thought of them would be such a natural aggravation. However, I don't see any chemical relationship besides the aggravated behavior. Witches prefer tradition and Fairies of Happiness are not the traditional 'fairy'. So they probably wont even acknowledge their existence.

I hope you didn't find my explanation offensive.^^'' This is just how witches are. They hate nearly all races besides their own because they picture their race as the dominant one. Though some races are a few exceptions because of certain business relationships. The witch culture is highly based off "status" so most probably seem like the rude popular kids at a school or workplace. XD; They even shun their own kind. If you dont have impressive witch ancestry, skills, or connections then you're probably down on the social ladder. It's very difficult for other races to truely impress a witch.

Ah thank you very much I'm glad you enjoy my Witch Head canon.

So, they will have no relation, that's okay! But... (if you agree of course)  my fairies only could notice the presence of a witch? This is, because when my fairies notice bad feelings around them, they could fed on these feelings.

So, it could be the same relation with sirens: they only use the negative power of sirens or witches to make them stronger, only this, although they are totally independent. (Although they feel uncomfortable with a fairy near to them)

You are welcome!!!!

Hm...They could probably notice the presence but if they try to absorb or 'feed' off of any of their energy they'd probably get sick.
Witches would have adapted to them so they wouldnt be taken advantage of at all costs.
So no they couldnt feed or use witches at all. Their energy would probably poison them fatally.

They can feel his presence, but not to feed your energy, but in time to escape them. That's fine!

Okay, that's all! Thank you very much for your attention!

Mortal witches just dabble in witchcraft. They usually use tricks and potions to make it appear as if they can make magic and spells. When in reality it's smoke and mirrors like a magician.XD Immortal witches not only live a long time but can devote themselves to a study to the point it becomes magic.
A lot of it also has to do with blood types and overall chemical composition. A mortal witch CAN become immortal though. Only 3 elder witches in Hyrule can perform this 'induction' but the chances of survival are very slim.XD Only a handful of mortals have survived the transformation and they have many physical, mental, and emotional problems because of it. (They become unstable)
Dovey was once mortal but half of her family had immortal witch blood.XD (which improves her chances of surviving) And she barely made it. 70 year recovery afterwards- so the induction involves a LENGTHY recovery time.

Induction: the action or process of inducting someone to a position or organization.
It's basically being accepted or a part of. There is no removal from becoming an immortal witch though. A few say it's a curse because it's very hard to die.
And the 3 elder witches don't induct whoever they please. Most of the time they purposely "mess up" to kill the pathetic 'wannabe' witch.
Elders are not kind to mortals.XD ESPECIALLY humans. If they dont see potential or interest then they'll brush them aside.
It's also very hard to locate the elders. There is only one that can be recorded hidden somewhere in the Lost Woods. And that's the Syrup Witch, Dovey's grandmother. Syrup doesnt go out often because she has Dovey to make trips for her. The only mortals who've found Dovey and Syrup's home were by accident. And most of them quickly leave the area in fear of the witches.XD

Oh I see!
... So they born mortal, and If they wanna be real magic witches they need to go trough Induction by finding an elder that accepts them?
