Description
A bench sitting near the Duck Pond @ Virginia Tech. I saw it and thought "I bet nobody wants to sit all the way out here while it is snowing like this." I took a few pics and this one captured the moment best. Nikon D70s and 55-200mm lense. I also though the contrast of the snow and the bench would look nice in B&W so I desaturated it in Photoshop.Related content

Beautiful how you captured the emptyness of the scene. Great shot.

I love the work here... definitely a great choice for b&w... I love how you managed to get the shot while the snow was still falling. Hopefully after I get my camera Christmas day, it'll snow some so I can take some shots

you're right, only in b and w. i love this photograph. The bench is very tilted, very dynamic balcks and whites, great depth of field play with the trees in the background. great shot

I like the composition with the approximate symmetry of the photo. Also has a change of season context to the photo, the bunch was once widely used and now greatly ignored. Contrast between values are greatly off.

Since people have been saying that the contrast is off I touched it up in Photoshop a bit to get rid of the grayness. I reuploaded the pic so it shouldbe close to correct now.

I did not choose this because it was on the featured deviation, it chose me because I shot a similar shot a while ago to show the lonliness of a bench in winter. This is a well composed shot that reflects a lot of sentiment. Nice job.

No I am an engineering student, photography is just one of my hobbies, my grandmother says my grandfather also loved photography so I guess I get it from him.

The falling snow is an excellent addition, and the blades of grass sticking out from the snow give this picture a lot more depth, I think. The composition I think is very good, too.. though usually, centered objects aren't all that interesting. I think the detail in the falling snow helps make up for that.

I agree usually a centered unmoving object is boring. Thanks for the comment.

quite beautiful with that snow falling, good depth of field there, but i feel again that that contrast needs to go up a bit, infact no, put the levels up a bit first, tehn the contrast

This is a very nice shot.. Really suits the title.. The angle you chose doesnt create a very dynamic image though.. A more interesting angle may have created a better DoF too make a really nice image. I really like it though.
