Sorry for the lapse in posting anything. Life is trying to kill me. Literally. Also, I am dirt poor. Literally.Anyway.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am SUPER picky about fanfics. So it would stand to reason that when I stumbled upon a GW fic that wasn't just entertaining, but absolutely AMAZING, I totally lost my shit. I had to go and sketch out a scene from the fic just to sate myself. Maybe I will send it to the author if I don't hate it when I'm done, since I'm still not sure the best way to colour this shit to get the image in my head. Sleeping on it is probably a good plan.

I fucking hate Sol's work like I can't even tell you: I think her original characters suck and that her writing is generally soulless -- that there is something very, very, VERY off about the way she writes the relationships of the guys. Maldoror has some good fics, but she was a bitch to a good friend of mine, so her work has also been kind of ruined for me. If you want a good fic, read stuff by Kebzero, Lone Wolf, Jei or Mitsugi's old Bridlewood story.

D: Oh my, I was not expecting that reaction lol. I'm sorry to hear that Maldoror was so rude to your friend. I have never read Sol's original work, only the one fic Drums of Heaven, which I loved, so I have no opinion on her original stuff. xD
I do like Jei's work, and there were one or two fics by Lone Wolf I liked, but beyond that I don't like those authors. Haha, guess we don't have quite the same tastes after all! ^^

If I remember correctly, Drums of Heaven has some OCs in it. Or maybe it was her story Dancing With The Rude Boys, which she turned original... but they're so similar... I couldn't get into either one, though I can't remember which one I put up with longer. But then again, I have been exclusively in Heero/Duo fandom for, like, ten years, so my standards are not only super high, but I've kind of seen a lot of the... dramacon. Which has both pluses and negatives.
That is too bad. I can't believe you didn't like Bridlewood. That was classic and interesting, wonderfully written and involved. Lone Wolf and Keb also have some of the best characterizations of the guys in fandom, imo. You should probably also look up Mookie's old stuff, Casey Valhalla's old stuff, Fancy Figures and maybe some DC Logan as well. If you're looking for some stuff to read, I could point you to my website, I suppose: I think I have a lot of good quality stuff and a bunch that isn't really so easy to find anymore

Hmmmm...we really don't seem to like the same type of fics. xD I've been in the 1x2 fandom since it first aired on Toonami in the US, but I only liked one fic by Lonewolf (Crazy). And I never really liked the way FancyFigures portrayed Quatre or Duo. I love authors like Sunhawk, Maldoror, Zephyr/Sol, Katsu no Miko, Jei, Shoori, etc. I also like a few stuff by Merula, Merith, Link Worshipper, and Kracken- it really depends on the fic more than the author though.
I already have your site in my favs actually! I always save 1x2 sites when I come across them.

Yeah, me too. Not a fan of Sunhawk's portrayal of Duo at all, though I think she is a great writer (and a good friend!). Dislike Kracken, Sol... yeah... But Jei and Merula are good, and Mal had a few before she started writing creepy pairings... which sort of ruined her godo ones for me D:

I'm more into the portrayal of "dangerous Duo" like in "Freeport" by Maldoror, etc - but I loved Sunhawk's "Ion"...mostly the first couple of chapters. "Electra Glide in Green" was nice too. Ah! But I really really really love Jei's "Moments of Haven." And "Cultural Experiences" by Tammaiya. xD It was hilarious!
I find most of my fics via Rec Lists, or Moments of Haven. "Fleeting Fancies" [link] is where I find a lot of good fics I fall in love with, lol.

Yeah, I tend to like a really edge of the knife, slightly psychotic Duo, which is how he usually is in my serious fics. Most people don't like it, though, because I refuse to conform to fandom stereotypes. My dangerous Duo is going to burn your house down and laugh while you're screaming inside. Though I'm not sure many people like my Heero either, but whatever; fuck these people who think he's got no goddamn feelings. Fucking drives me up a fucking wall.
I read completely based on recs from people whose taste I trust. I have incredibly high standards, so I don't read as much anymore.

Agreed!!! I hate a lot of the "fanon" stuff too...like Duo having a 'split-personality' thing where he transforms into this crazy Shinigami persona, or like Heero having a chip in his head that keeps him from feeling emotions. SO stupid. It makes me wonder if they ever even *WATCHED* Gundam Wing. I've been re-watching the series recently, and I've just been shaking my head in bemusement - in the first 20-something episodes alone, Heero laughs, smiles, smirks, gets really bloody angry, gets depressed, and shows SO MUCH emotion.....he's not a brick wall like some people attempt to portray him. HONESTLY.

I adore the look on Heero's face. I think it speaks mountains for what's going on in his head. Very, holy christ here we go, deer-in-headlights, I'm in over my head but it feels nice so I'll run with it. And I really enjoy the detail of the shower curtain. It adds an element of flow and softness to an otherwise startling moment. Thanks again!

Ahahaha, no worries. Your story gave me a complex about some of my own, which is good. I'm a huge dick about fanfics anymore, since so many of them suck rocks, so I had to get the excitement out somehow. I am super happy with the complexities of the characters in your story, which is something most people gloss over when they write. I'm super happy I managed to get that into their faces... even if the proportions are a bit off. *obsesses*
As for colouring, it's not the look but rather the technique. If you look through my other pics, you'll notice I tend to prefer colouring by hand, but I'm wondering if it might just be easier to do it digitally. Because I am insane and love making my life difficult
But wheeeee!! I can't wait for more Heero and Duo joy. Maybe cruising ff.net isn't a totally lost cause, otherwise I would have never found it, haha. I would totally love to archive it on my site

I can empathize with feeling frustrated at the lack of good fiction out there--I get in those spouts too, where I want to turn off my comp and never look at it again. But then i just end up writing something, and cross my fingers I give it justice.
More Heero and Duo fun to come! I'm excited to continue this arch as we're going to quickly return to politics and action and blood and guts and gore. More profanity, more irreverence, tons of sexual tension.

And i'm sure whatever you decide to do with the sketch will turn out awesome. I saw some of your tattoo pics and nearly fainted. I've been fiddling around with a deathscythe design I want to scale the length of my side, and it made me want to go back and work on it some more! Love the way you color by hand, too. They almost look like watercolor. In fact, I assumed they were...? What mediums do you tend to work with most?
And I have to say, the Muse reference had me grinning like an idiot. I've been listening to that song for 1x2 inspiration since the holy world of slash came to me in a vision of binary.

Yeah, there used to be this golden age where finding good fics was so easy. Now most of the good authors aren't writing anymore, and I've read all that shit. I think part of the reason I write myself is because I'm trying to satisfy that need for a story about them.
But yay, more fic! Thank God! I'm so excited. Though I must say, your profanity hasn't got anything on this one story I wrote a few years ago: I used the word 'fuck' or variations on it over 750 times. Thank you word count. Not that my anger towards anything ended up spouting out of Duo's mouth in it or anything, nosuh.

I just got Wing Zero wings tattooed under Heero and Duo, but no one has taken a good picture of them to post online, so the old photo remains for the time being. As for what I use to colour, it's usually whatever strikes me. Typcially, I use an ink quill and then colour in with Copic markers. I used to watercolour more, and I might strike it up again now that I'm graduated and I don't live in a dorm with no space to draw. I'm so fucking old school, though. For all my love of computers, nothing beats traditional arts. Or typewriters for that matter.
Fuck yeah inspirational Heero/Duo songs. I'm glad you appreciate it. There are so many songs that remind me of Heero and Duo, it's probably easier for me to spout out the ones that don't, haha.
