The SLR was the licensed version of the Belgian FN-FAL rifle adopted by the British Army. The SLR was built to imperial measurements and featured a number of changes and improvements to the original Belgian design. The rifle was also adopted by the Australian, Canadian and New Zealand armies (as well as other former British colonies) The SLR was produced in the UK by three different companies; Royal Small Arms Factory Enfield (Enfield), Birmingham Small Arms (BSA) and the Royal Ordinance Factory Fazakerley (Fazakerley).

Unlike the FN-FAL the British SLR was designed for semi-automatic fire only. However British soldiers soon discovered that the insertion of a matchstick at a particular point in the rifle allowed the rifle to be fired full-automatically.

Good old SLR. My dad used it in the jungle of Borneo & Malaya, back in the 70's, against the Communist insurgents.

You can still get them from CAI (kit guns, really not that great) or if you have the money get from DSA.

I know a guy who built his FAL out of a parts kit.

Nothing wrong with kit guns by themselves, but you know CAI, they throw kits together with abandon.

True, in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, I usually prefer the FAL with the ACOG scope.

Videogames don't mean anything. Please my friend, get out and try to do it for real.

If you're over 18 you can get a FAL. Unless you're in Minnesota that requires a basic mil rifle/pistol buyer permit.

Still, DSA makes Cali legal SA58 FALS.

Yeah, but the mag is welded into the reciever and you have to load the thing by popping the cover and use a stripper clip.

Just like those damn AR15 bullet buttons. California is a shitty place to be for a gunner.
