A closer view of comet Nishimura C/2023 P1, taken in the early morning of September 6, 2023, just before dawn. Due to its low altitude there is not much time until daylight outshines it. At this time it had a brightness of 6.31 mag, and was nearly invisible to the naked eye.

The celestial body is named after the Japanese amateur astronomer Hideo Nishimura, who discovered it on August 12, 2023. It orbits the Earth every 437 years, which is also the reason why it was completely unknown until now.
