This piece of artwork touches the very depth of my soul...my most significant totem animal is the dragon...particularly a massive male crimson dragon named Llame. He met me across the different planes of existence, and showed me many things~ he looks like the dragon in this picture, just ten times the size~ Absolutely stunning....

Yes! High quality art without the use of a computer! Now that's what I like Awsome details and texture. I don't have much experience with watercolor pencils, so I was wondering- do they behave like regualr colored pencils except that they have the water properties of watercolor paint and can be used with a brush? Wonderful work!

LinzArcher In reply to asanashia [2007-01-24 16:50:01 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the coloring aspect involves covering the area like a colored pencil until water is added and then it creates darker, richer colors than watercolor alone. It helps eliminate some of the repeatition of coats in order to achieve the desired color.

The dragon is so beautiful here... And I live the composition.
Why does the girl smiling? Her dress remids me of a bellydancers' one.

Just takes patience and practice... and listening to audiobooks help

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

erwebb In reply to LinzArcher [2006-10-25 22:41:14 +0000 UTC]

So what audiobooks do you recommend? I just bought my first iPod Nano (silver) last week. I am looking to listen to some good helpful books.

What is your method of practice and patience? Every chance you get?

LinzArcher In reply to erwebb [2006-10-26 02:10:06 +0000 UTC]

I really like listening to fantasy when painting fantasy. Since I am illustrating for DragonLance, I'm sorta feeling the need to catch up on some of it, so when they ask me to illustrate something from an older book I don't just stare blankly

Practice and patience... I have gotten bad about carrying a sketchbook with me everywhere, but that's the first thing I reccomend to everyone. Otherwise, I occasionally have to push myself to do as much as I can as often as I can.

erwebb In reply to LinzArcher [2006-10-26 22:35:30 +0000 UTC]

So who is your favorite fantasy writer? Do you also listen to music while drawing? I do. It helps me to be more creative.

If I am doing a scary scene, I listen to scary music. If I want to do a sci-fi, I listen to a sci-fi movie soundtrack, or an electronic score. The right kinds of music just opens the creative doors for my mind.

I will have to start forcing myself to take an artpad everywhere I go. I may be geeky when I do that, but at least I can practice more often.

Your grandfather... Did he teach you to paint? What advice did he give to you?

ERwebb

LinzArcher In reply to erwebb [2006-10-27 17:21:29 +0000 UTC]

My favorite (sorry Margaret) is Lois McMaster Bujold (The Warrior's Apprentice and The Curse of Chalion). I adored Ender's Game, but could not stomach the following books.

I like to have music in the background too, but I have a tendancy to not feel as restless when listening to a story or history channel or something. Music makes me want to be more mobile and do physical things. I guess I just have those dancing feet

As for the art pad... I wouldn't worry about that

My grandfather taught me a little about watercolors. Mostly he just helped me enjoy being an artist. He showed me tips here and there, but we'd get in the car and drive to a spot that was nice, get out, set up paints or sketchbooks and draw cows in different positions for a couple hours. He helped me see the world in new ways ...

erwebb In reply to LinzArcher [2006-10-27 19:16:29 +0000 UTC]

Linz,

What was wrong with the books after Ender's Game? Why did they make U sick?

Do you still do watercolors the way Grandpa showed you?

I wonder what he made you see in the world....

Speaker for the Dead? I think that was the title, just sorta lost something.

Actually I don't do them the way he showed me. *blush* But I did learn to be patient and build up the color over time.

Beauty can be in the unlikliest places...
