Young women aren’t usually associated with long, slinky reptiles. Gemma was different. She chose herpetology as her field of study at college and got a job looking after reptiles at the local zoo. The average girl would probably shudder at the thought of being surrounded by scaly beasts all day, but Gemma enjoyed her work and loved the animals she cared for.
One day Gemma’s supervisor called her into the office and said that a certain wealthy widow had phoned and wanted to offer her a job. Gemma got the number and called Mrs Jean Carruthers, the lady who had called and asked her what the job was. Mrs Carruthers told her to meet her after work at a certain bar for drinks and she’d fill her in on the offer.
