I once covered myself with the deep red and brown raw natural clay from cliffs of Aquinna in Martha's Vineyard. I didn't expect it to be as enjoyable as it was.

This is stunning. How did you make the mixture? what ingredients did you use?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

liquidether In reply to igaboo [2008-07-01 12:07:35 +0000 UTC]

I used a clay called B-Mix with Sand. I just scooped a bit out of the bag, mixed it with water until it was slip (very wet clay), then rubbed it on my self. it was a bit of a pain (literally) to get of because it has so much sand in it. Next time I would use porcelain clay....

Thank you for the compliment and for the question - I greatly appreciate both!

hey, i put plaster of paris on a girl. it got all up in her hair, like as much as its in your hair in the photos. how did you get the clay out of your hair? what would you recommend for plaster of paris? cause right now, its not coming easily out of her hair, or at all, i'm not sure, she is in the shower at the moment trying to get it out.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

liquidether In reply to igaboo [2009-12-17 05:37:48 +0000 UTC]

Well, once plaster of paris hardens, you're pretty screwed. Hopefully it is still wet.Gently chipping/crumbling it off might work, but you risk taking hair with it. I am unaware of any solvents that would be safe to use on a person to get it out. See, with clay, you can just wet it once it dries and it turns back into wet clay, it doesn't harden permanently until you put it into a kiln. Plaster of paris undergoes a chemical transformation (hardening) once water has been added.
One more thing: you should NEVER let plaster of paris go down your drain. It can harden in the pipes and then has to be professionally (read expensively) cleaned out.
Sorry I can't be any more help than this, and next time PLEASE research any material you are going to put on a persons body before you do it just so you can avoid situations like this.

trust me, i keep hitting myself in the head, and i usually do the research, like try out things on myself first, but i figured since its for babies, there wouldn't be any problems. And that means that i was being ignorant and careless. Which means, of course, that i am learning to be more cautious for future photo sessions and i know to take more precautions.
Thanks for the advice, i'll relay the message to the girl. thanks!

You have my empathy! Does the model have long hair? If so, and if she is still having trouble getting it out of the parts not too close to her head, you could try having her lay down on concrete or bricks and sandwiching her hair between a thick-ish section of newspaper, and GENTLY tapping the plaster out with a rubber mallet, or one of those meat tenderizing hammers. Let me know if she is still having problems; I'm happy to help you brainstorm some solutions

This is really adventuresome! I've wanted to do this for a long time. Does the sand hurt your skin, or was it just hard to get off?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

liquidether In reply to rebootmaster2001 [2008-04-07 13:27:44 +0000 UTC]

I highly recommend the experience...just make sure that you use a grog- and/or sand-less clay body unless you want the exfoliation experience of your life. I suggest porcelain (they use kaolin in high-end facial mud masks, don'tcha know). And no, it wasn't that difficult to remove, just let the shower water wash over your hair while washing it off your body and save the shampooing for last!

Thanks for your comment!
