Description
[UPDATE]Now available as a print!
-------------------------------
I was testing out a brand new product; Strathmore's Wet Media Illustration Board, and I was quite pleased with the quality. I sketched it out in pencil, inked over the drawing, erased it easily and colored it using traditional ink and also pearlescent acrylic inks.
Three days.

years ago i started a collection of old reference photography, things i found here and there of stuff i liked. the wolf came from a photo i saved... i think it was from a calendar from the 90s. the birds were from photos i came across the net. i usually try to use my own references, or alter images with use of multiple references when i can, though.
yeah i suppose i could have used more variation in the eye color to bring it out a little more... you can't tell in this image because of the scan, but there is some pearlescent paint in the eye. ah well.

beautiful! I like how you used visible lineart with realistic colors, it creates an interesting effect.
may I ask if you used a straight reference for this, or is this only partly referenced, or all from your head?
btw if you don't mind me saying, I think the eyes look a bit flat.. they probably would have worked better if they were yellow with strong, dark brown shading on few edges, if you know what I mean? I'm just suggesting this because you've requested critique for this, so don't take this the wrong way. I absolutely love your art!

I'd love to save some good photos too when I see them but I always forget. so when I need a reference I have to look around because I can't remember where I saw that one perfect picture years ago.

Lovely action pic The fur on the wolf is gorgeous, and the mixing of colors in the snow is pretty

thanks! you can't really tell but the colors in the snow have a shimmering effect from the pearlescent inks. wish that came through in the scan, but it doesn't quite capture the twinkle

i used wet media illustration board from strathmore. pretty much any fine art store sells them... i wouldn't bother with craft chain stores like michaels or ac moore, go for something like a utrecht, blick or pearl.

It's amazing! What kind of paper do you use for painting?
Hmm.. by the way I think front paws and body are too short D:

to answer your Q, just read the description under the image.
and you may notice there is some foreshortening, but it is all perspective and i think the proportions are correct.
thanks for the comment
