It's not severity, its intensity. Haven't you ever loved someone so much that you couldnt get enough of them? I think it looks like she's about to kiss the stuffing out of him. ^^
When passion and love are so very intense a hard, deep, passionate kiss is the only way to keep you from exploding. I certainly feel this way with my love.
