Hello there! I am here from ProjectComment for the weekly commenting project, and this piece caught my eye right away!
I'm going to start by saying that I feel like it must have something to do with the background. It's such a unique style, and simple yet effective. It really accentuates your art! The chickenscratch-like style of the lineart is really quite lovely and goes very well with the coloring style, and the "hasty" hair and shading really stands out to me. While we're on the subject of the hair, I'd just like to say that I think you chose a perfect style for her. It's really quite lovely. The clothing choices are fantastic as well. She looks both chic and comfy, and that really helps with the mood of this artwork.
Now, onto the advice. I'd say that while you got most of the anatomy right, the running foot at the very bottom seems a little... off. I'd try maybe making the heel connect a bit more with the pavement, otherwise, if this were a real person, she'd be half a second away from slipping onto her butt! Same goes for the hands. I'm no expert at drawing hands myself, so unfortunately I can't really give great advice for EXACTLY how to improve it, but I feel that there's something not quite right with the anatomy of the hands. Keep in mind that the middle finger is longer than index for the left hand, and for the right, it might benefit you to make it a bit more clear where the hand ends and the hair/forehead starts. Lastly, I'd watch the legs, too. The bottom half of the front leg seems a little sharper than normal, and the second leg might be too small.
These are all TINY details, though. I wouldn't have noticed them if I hadn't actively been looking for something to criticize Lovely work, and keep doing what you're doing!

Thank you -so- much for the kind compliments and the helpful critique!
I wish I could have done more with the background, actually! Or at least figure out how to position it better. Backgrounds have always been a weakness, since I never bothered in the past with learning how to do backgrounds as part of my sketches! So it's nice to near I've somehow done something pleasing. :]
And chicken-scratch is pretty much where I live at, ROFL. I'm hoping getting better at digital art will mean I'll have to skip the beleaguering process of making clean line art.
I absolutely agree about the heel and her hands. Her leg SEEMED alright when it was in just chicken-scratch, but I think I was experiencing the sort of blind eye you get when you're working on something for a while without flipping the image. The sharpness of her calf is glaringly obvious now to the point that I'm not certain why I didn't work on that more during the sketch phase.
Thank you again for your support! It means a lot that you took the time to write it out. :]

Ah, really? I thought the background was one of the best parts of this piece I dunno. It may be because I work with a VERY limited picture editor, so I don't actually have many options and making a background like that would be near impossible.
Chicken-scratch. Gosh. I CANNOT draw without chicken-scratching. You managed to make it work, though.
I totally agree that it was probably just the "blind eye". You just totally stop seeing what you're drawing. I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you; everyone gets it!
The pleasure was all mine (Can I just say that I LOVE your username?)

Hey! I'm here from ProjectComment to comment on this wonderful piece
Let me start off by saying that you've done a great job! You say that this is an Speed paint, but I'd like to know how long did it take for you to draw it, because I think it has turned out really great. I like the summer atmosphere you've created (I don't know if it was intended) and the dynamism on her pose, as well as the composition of the imatge. I think that the background makes the picture look balanced. I also adore the colours on the background. And I understand why you like how the face came out, she looks sweet!
Now, I could go on and on with good things about this drawing but I should give you some advice or this wouldn't be a constructive comment, so let me give you some suggestions to imporve a little more: Anatomy. I know it's one of the hard things in drawing the human body, and I must say you've done a pretty good job here, but there are some things you could improve next time (just details). The first thing is the left hand. I know this is an speed paint, so it's normal to left things without lots of details, but there are some things you could fix even in a speed paint, for example: the index finger should never be longer than the midle finger. Also, for further works I leave here a Tips on Drawing Hands Tutorial , because it's always useful.
Quick shading. I know in a speed paint you won't go with a detailed shading, but you could use darker tones to add depth to de drawing. Don't be afraid of black, and you could even try with dark blue or purple. I find a litle hard to tell where's the light source, and that's something you should always keep in mind. Here's a Shading Tutorial I often recommend.
That's it! Hope this comment helps you in some ways Keep up the good work!

The sketching part was probably about 20 minutes, and the coloring part an additional 40 minutes. I feel like it probably should have taken a shorter amount of time for the actual work that was done, but for all intents and purposes I'm new to the world of painting and drawing for the purpose of painting, so color and shading are so weaaaak for me.
The summer atmosphere wasn't intended but rather a product of how I was coloring. After I laid down the background of paint-splotches, I used a flesh tone to gently over everything as a once over, and I used what was on the canvas already to create the color range that I used by mixing and blending as I went. My intention was to get more of a 'prismatic' color effect, but it turned out to be more warm and green hued (which would be the summer bit) because that's where the majority of shadowing and highlights came from out of my paint splotches!
Hands are -teeerrrible- for me. I'm still learning how to do them. . . In fact, I -just- broke myself, I think, of purposely avoiding any pose that would show them in full so I could avoid even trying. Thank you for the hands tutorial!!
And the shading tutorial. I think I could have utilized more shading too. Contrast is a scary, brave new frontier. ;-----------;
Thank you so much for your helpful critiques! I really appreciated the time you took to go over in detail the places I could improve. :]

you're welcome! and I encourage you not to hide hands, the more you draw them, the better they'll look if you have some free time, I'd even suggest filling up a paper with nothing but hands!

Thank you so much! I'm so glad people like the soft colors, because coloring is one of the things I've been weak on for so long.

Those EMOJIs that you use! The rabbit is perfect. <3 Ahaha.
Thank you so much! Anatomy is one of the only things that have been feeling more 'natural' to me over the last two months of practice sketches!

D'aawww! Thank you. :] At some point you'll have to upload a drawing of Usagi too! I'd love to see how you render her out in your gorgeous, elegant style.

Yuu're welcome! Once I finish all the holiday art for others and myself I'll definitely look into painting her! I'll probably paint Princess Serenity since her clothing is more fitting of what I prefer to draw. Thank yuu so much for the compliment and future painting idea!
