The first thing you’ll most likely notice about Weatherbee is how dynamic the young man can be. He seems to be constantly on stage, performing for a crowd and anticipating applause. He talks above, instead of to, avoiding eye contact except for penetrating stares. This isn’t on accident: it’s often said that eyes reveal intention, and Weatherbee doesn’t enjoy being unraveled. Along with all the flash and theatrics, Weatherbee is considerably charismatic, outgoing and affectionate. He’s the kind of person that thrives on the attention of others, and flourishes in their jealousy.

A master of words, Weatherbee is clever and surprisingly self-aware. He’s quick to use his intellect to overcome any prejudice and uses his even quicker with snap-backs. He relies on his quick wit to come out on top and picks his friends very wisely. He is a strategic thinker and tries to be steps ahead of any situation. If confrontation happens, he will not back down, always fighting to get the last word in.

With his fixation on appearance, Bee tends to flaunt his wealth and stature for all to see. Bee is eloquent and stylish, most certainly extravagant, but he’d only say he appreciates the finer things in life.  That mindset also sinks into his opinion of class and grades: if a subject is not of interest to him, he will do a bare minimum. Although some might call him lazy, he says he’s saving his energy for what’s important. Once he finds something of passion, he is dedicated and resourceful to an almost unhealthy degree, going above and beyond to ensure he gets exactly what he wants.

He can be single-minded and obsessive when it comes to the things he’s passionate about. If his mind is on something, he will work until he obtains it. But on the same point, he is entirely working for his own benefit. He cares very little for other people, and can be seen as egotistical, and even seems detached with his lack of care for others. He only seems to care about someone if he can get something in return. Sometimes what he’s getting is left ambiguous and unknown, but nothing is ever intriguing if all the cards are left on the table.

But his self-interest isn’t entirely for selfish reasons. Bee keeps almost everyone at arm's length, and he has trouble opening up to other people. He is incredibly untrusting, and it means that the number of deep relationships he has is incredibly limited. In some respects, the act he puts on for everyone is exactly that: a show. It can get exhausting to keep the facade up, and on some lonely days, Weatherbee wonders if he who he portrays is anything other than a show.

H i s t o r y
Carter Weatherbee was not always obsessed with the limelight. He had an extraordinarily ordinary childhood, raised by two hard-working, middle-class muggle immigrants. From the moment he was born, he had his place. A middle child of five, sandwiched between a child genius and a musical prodigy, Bee ended up desperate to prove his worth. His entire childhood was excruciatingly average, and for the first half of his life, Bee was certain he was bound to the mediocrity that droned on in his existence.  He excelled in nothing. He wasn’t an all-star futball player, not a practiced pianist, didn’t have a mathematical prowess.

He hated it.

But the worst part wasn’t his parent’s apathy. Their lack-luster encouragement to keep trying, his sibling’s taunting sneers of how he just needed to get a little better, try just a little harder. The worst part was that he really was trying. He placed so much effort in failed attempts. Hours practicing, days spent studying, years wasted just trying to catch up to siblings who were leaps and bounds ahead.

Just when he’d felt like he’d forever be living in a shadow, he finally found something that only he was good at.

It started when he was seven, an aptitude for making things go his way. Small occurrences happened when he was particularly overwhelmed or angry. Fighting with siblings for the last piece of bacon when it simply appeared on his plate. Arguing over the next show to watch when the TV suddenly the channel changed all on its own. These moments became more frequent, to the point where Bee was finding some level of control of these unknown powers. It was at a family gathering, where he made three desserts float across the room and on his plate when his Uncle Artemis first took notice. Uncle Artemis was the odd-ball of the family, the eccentric one that his Father had called obnoxious, draped in opulence and a robe that glittered and swept the floor.

Another wizard, he’d said. A powerful one, at that. About time the Weatherbee’s get put on the map.

The rest of his childhood was finally stepping out of shadows and outshining the rest of his family. He spent more time at his Uncle's home than his own, more time out of the muggle classroom and into Diagon Alley. Less time learning about pronouns and times-tables and more time learning what Boomslang skin was. Even before Hogwarts ever sent him a letter, Bee was entrenched in the World he was entering. Artemis taught him everything. Fed him that the Weatherbee’s already had a name for themselves, that as a wizard he was better than his family, just like he was better than his siblings. It wasn’t their fault, but wizards could do real, tangible magic. Muggles would never understand that power. That, beyond all luck, he was a wizard from a family of completely non-wizards. It meant that he was special.

Learning from his Uncle what it meant to be a Wizard, who he was meant to be. Finally, Bee had something that was his, and just his.

Artemis filled his head with grandeur and tales of his work. With his career as a Curse Breaker at Gringotts Bank, he had plenty to share. It was a dangerous job full of the excitement and unknown that had Bee absolutely enthralled. He hung on his Uncle’s death-defying stories like they were the word of God, something to admire with absolution. Artemis was the father he always wanted. With the life he wanted: always a step ahead, talented and brave, laughing in the face of danger. He’d learned so much from his Uncle. Artemis was a mentor that had helped Bee find his strengths and his confidence.

But his Uncle was far from the perfect father-figure Bee looked up to. Along with reputation and the myriad of stores, he was a man of obsession. An obsession that could not be stifled. While collecting the coin and jewel was part of the job, items after a job was finished often ended up with no home. Gringotts had a museum’s worth of artifacts and items that would be piled in a vault, forgotten and collecting dust. It always felt like such a shame. Over the years, Artemis began the slow process of “Forgetting the antique potion bottle was in his pocket.”, to eventually simply going home with whatever was scouted over the latest trip, from pottery all the way to massive relics. Gold and jewels were always given in, so no Goblin ever turned a nose up at him.

This obsession with collecting deepened, the need to go for bigger scores, to seek out more deadly vaults was his downfall. A hot and muggy evening in July came with the news. The obsession had finally caught up with him.

He never got to see his nephew get his letter to Hogwarts.

After his Uncle’s death, Bee lost some of his spark. The smile was less frequent, his attitude more reserved. His first year of Hogwarts was as a quiet boy, great grades, rarely making waves. It took some time to regain his spunk, and when it returned it was wrapped in an eccentric package. He stopped trying to impress people, he no longer cared about the opinion of strangers and how he might be perceived. He was too clever for his own good, smarter than everyone else, and no longer cared what people thought of him. He took on so much of his Uncle’s personality, determined to continue the legacy.

Throughout his years at Hogwarts, he was known as an excellent student in the subjects that he thought were important, as a terror in those he didn't, a showman and prankster that got him the acclaim he sought. He was always searching for the next big high, a story that could match that of his Uncle’s: the more exhilarating, the most heart-racing, the more deadly, the more Weatherbee was interested. He was a dare-devil, well known for his plummets and quick turns on a broom: the closer he got to impact the better. (Though, less well-known, were how many times he actually did make an impact. Broken bones and injuries were a part of the thrill.) He got himself involved with the activities and classes that’d help him follow in his Uncle’s steps, keeping his mind and body as occupied and preoccupied as possible.

Weatherbee believes in their separation. What his family doesn’t know about his abilities as a wizard is better than them constantly wanting something from him. He thinks Muggles can be self-serving and power hungry, and if they knew about wizards it would only cause trouble.

E x t r a
- Says things brightly. Uses words like “Darling”, “Nary” and “Gracious”, “Dear me.”

- Loves breaking rules. Smuggles contraband into the castle regularly. Somehow seldom caught. Once started a bet if he could set a Professor's robes on fire without getting caught and did so successfully.

- Smiles to the side, so much so it doesn’t look entirely like a smile.

- Fiddles with his hat, hem of his jacket, pocket square. Brushes down his pants, adjusts jacket. Twirling wand in his fingers. Usually doing /something/ with his hands.

- The luckiest, smuggest bastard you’ll ever meet.

- Bows after saying something clever. Actor, seems to be on stage, talks and looks over people as there’s an audience.

- For a Muggleborn, he has an ill view of Muggles. He views wizards as superior, even as a Muggleborn himself. His Uncle once said that being a Muggleborn Slytherin proves his worth among wizards, and Bee believes it.
