I agree with you, the movie sure definitly adapts the character essence, it's based on three of the best classic series of Venom and that's excellent!
Tom Hardy's impersonation as Eddie Brock it's awesome, i personally see him as the perfect and ideal Eddie Brock, the chemistry between him and the Symbiote is amazing just right the comics, not to mention the dark humoristic comments of Venom and the theme of the alimentation with chocolate, just right your drawing

Wait...what? if you are a classic Venom fan and read the comics “Lethal Protector” “Hunger&” and “Planet of the Symbiotes” then you should know that Ruben Fleischer did a great film adapting the character over the classic comics. Tom Hardy also make a great impersonation of Eddie Brock like it's first times as Venom in comics, the theme of their alimentation with chocolate and the personality is exaclty as the comics, early in comics Eddie didn't have good times with the Symbiote and neither looking for eating humans brains til Eddie found out that human brains and chocolate has the same chemical substance called “Phenethylamine”
In Lethal Protector Venom tries not to being so evil, tecnically Eddie Brock was kind of a good person and when he fussioned with the Symbiote after being annoyed by Spiderman when he moves out to San Francisco begin as heroe even Venom was agreed with him being funny sometimes even singing right in middle of a combat and protecting citizens, that's exactly what we see on the movie.
