Back when I first started 3d a friend, Mr Haraszti, told me always be the student, always keep learning. When you stop learning your art is dead. He was a beta tester for 3dStudio Max and an excellent artist. he felt he had done all he could in max and took up photography, excellent photographer. Then I lost touch.
www.grapheye.org/haraszti/page…
his website is gone but his work is scattered across the net.
Personally, I look at things the wrong way sometimes. I want it to be perfectly what I intend, what I see in my minds eye and my heart. Yet I have to chill and remove judgement because I havent those skills yet. I have to suspend my disbelief and instead be the boy starring at the moon in wide eyed wonder. And just dream. Look at the world and just dream.

I feel the same way as far as how i look at things the wrong way. I always want what I have imagined in my mind's eye to show through in what I actually create. Doesn't work that way. Well, at least not all the time. Always keep learning indeed. I for one especially in photography prefer to teach myself rather than other's teach me. Does that make sense? My step grandfather told me back when I was pretty young.. he did photography for a bit.. that taking classes was bs for him and photography. You can basically teach yourself just by doing it or at least trying. In some ways he is right and in others I don't think it could hurt to take some classes or at least trying to spend some time with other people who do the same thing and use different techniques teaching and learning from one another.

Yes that makes sense . others can teach you structure and give you ideas...but it is you that must train your eye to see. And it is you that must let it all come together and find your own path. take the same scene and no two people will see it the same, or feel about it the same. There are ways of doing things/techniques that we will not inherently know and may not discover. Those are good to be taught. but then its up to you how to apply them. In what I am 'trying' to do lol, the software isnt intuitive and to get from A to Z requires specific steps, sometimes painstakingly deep. Sometimes I swear I do it exactly right yet it doesnt work. Well, is never dull.
I think you do well and youre very talented. My wish for you is that you keep the joy and wonder of creating while forgeting any and all doubt. Suspend your disbelief and fly. And just for that i'm going to make another lil scene.

I appreciate that. I will try to keep creating and finding joy in happiness in it. I hope you do too. I get it. Sometimes I'll do something and it won't come out how it should but that is life in a nutshell.

The secret, and is hard to do...is to not judge ourselves. If we can just create for the love of it. Like a bird flies for the love of soaring through the air. And when we come up a bit short see it as a puzzle and a challenge to figure out what to do to bring our creation closer to our vision. Like when Mom used to tell us, 'hey, you kids go out and play'. We need to tell ourselves that, and laugh and giggle, and not take things, inc ourselves so seriously. And btw im the worst lol.

Lol, as in you need to follow your own advice?
I sometimes take myself too seriously too. Everyone does that.
I just think all we have to do is try to let go of some of that frustration. I won't lie I am a perfectionist. If it isn't how I want it... I need to step away because I'll get frustrated and well angry at myself. I am learning to just not be too self critical. I'll learn and get better as I go along.

yep, seems easier to see clearly w/out my own filters
Craftsmen just create, just work. Its a fine place to be. or so I imagine lol. And i probably shouldnt give advice on things i dont do myself. Being human i guess lol.
Being a perfectionist I think can be good. because it can drive you to learn and do better. but you also shoud be kind to yoursef and not die over it. meaning be fluid and know when to accept what youve done. it all takes time and it should all be fun.
So if you dont mind me asking....do you just take your camera with you and shoot if you see something or maybe you have an idea in mind from the start. Interesting the different processes people have.

Exactly,
But we all do that.. it is human nature to give advice that we really do not follow ourselves. I guess I try to do it from an empathetic point of view instead of a bossy well I think you need to do this sort of view.
I try to be fluid I'm strange I'll be very perfectionist like at one moment then be really irritated and frustrated.. then the next moment I'll make myself go.. oh well. whatever, I'll do better next time and I'm gonna just go with the flow. it
Hmm. It can be both ways. I try not to take my camera out too much if I go places because well tbh there are some pretty shady people who will try to steal it ( I don't live in the safest of towns). However, if I go out to say a nature preserve or huge park or where there are not too many people then I would of taken my camera. Sometimes I go places that I want to go and take pictures of. I hardly get to just go and take pictures anywhere. So I usually have to plan a day and be like on this day I want to go here or there to take pictures. Sometimes I just take my camera into my backyard and practice with my different lenses. I was going to start taking pictures of people more but... ugh. COVID broke out so I can't really do that at the moment. I would like to take more pictures in my back yard of the birds and what not since we get tons of bird traffic back there... ( received a telelens which would let me zoom far distances) However when I went to use it for the first time hiking.... I rolled my ankle and stumbled dropping my camera and it busted the lens. I was so mad
One of my top albums of all time. I listen mostly while editing or for relaxing

The music is soothing, thanks. it reminds me of some of the post-rock ive heard.
hah, somehow I have a hard time thinking of you as bossy. You just dont look the type. maybe when/if you have kids you would be tough when needed. But at least you know when to cut yourself a break. Sometimes i want to do wnderful art so bad ....ut you have to pay your dues. I think most of us learn better if we relax and have fun.
Do you ever start shooting pics and lose track of all time? get so involved that everything else disappears...used to be on a day off I coud easily spend an entre day or go into the early am.
Seems sad that places arent safe but thats just the way it is. Good think is tho if you have a nice camera on your cellphone you could get something. My friend, please dont drop camera parts....maybe you can wrap them in bubblewrap? yea that works. Theres some advice ill never follow for myself. Lol.
Your backyard sounds like a good place for photos. We used to get birds and lizards and even had a possum a couple times. I bet you have plenty to keep ya busy back there. please tell me you folks have a bbq grill?
yea, this virus thing is strange in so many ways. But we dont have many choices and I think id rather be safe. You could take pics of people from 6 feet away.....pics of emty toilet paper shelves. Document the social changes. I will end, and you can snap people again.
If I can find the photographers im thiking of I will send a link. have been meaning to but rather crazy here, hopefully slows down just a bit after tomorrow.
Here's some post-rock

Honestly, i think taking pictures is, well saying special to you isnt the right words. but whereas some people see taking pics as time spent. 'I just tookpics for an hour'. Its a part of you. Like entering another state of mind.
Take good care of you and yours.

Trust me, I am bossy. Not all the time.. I can be. I also have a short temper at times too.
When I lived in NY I sometimes lost track of time when taking photos.
I don't think anywhere is "safe" really. In our heads we probably like to think so. My cellphone camera is ok but I much prefer my DSLR .. I have a backpack that I carry my lenses in that is padded but I was carrying my camera on a tripod and my foot fell ankle deep into a hole and i accidentally dropped the tripod...
We don't have bbq grill at all.
I could take pictures of people that far but the lenses I have are meant for closer range so I have to get more than 6 feet.
That is a good video. I love ethereal kind of music. .. That makes me sound like a hippy... kind of.. I dunno cannot explain what I mean
Taking pictures hasn't been as special to me as it used to be. I still love it but I lost a little of the passion. Trying to get back into it over the last two years.

I imagine you laughing or smirking as you type youre bossy lol. You do well at fooling people who dont know you.
You remind me of something in Life. No where is safe as we think, there are no deals and no promises. We can build all the walls we want to but they dont mean a thing. perhaps better to just be able to see and handle it as it comes.
There is something about creativity that charms our souls. At a time perhaps we can connect without thought or care and enter a timeless place. Mine is gone as well. Or maybe sleeping waiting for a reawakening. We all change but still....
....I hope that whatever has happened and whatever it is that you will find that magic, that connection again. Some call it 'no-thought', create straight from your inner muse. perhaps remember why you enjot taking photos, remember the early excitedness. maybe just walk thru a garden or field or forest and just look. Take in all the texture, light and shadow and colors. It will come when it chooses.
here's some more Hippie music
www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGOPaE…
They are always wanting to classify music. Sometimes it just doesnt fit. I listen to whatever style suits the mood and the work. I guess like everyone.
Take good care my friend. the magic is there, for me too Taking my own advice

I can be bossy but that is more towards my family. Tough love.
I've also just come to learn to call people out on their BS. These last three years has taught me that.
I have also learned a lot about things and people and myself so.. you know. I'm really a nice person and can pretty much get a long with anyone ..even if I don't like someone.
I just have to work on putting myself first.
It is true. Nothing is promised. I've dealt with a lot last few years. I'm not gonna get into it cause now isn't the time.
We will see how it plays out since I can't go to my most favorite place to take pics.
that is certainly hippy music. But not in a bad way if it makes sense. I dunno what I am talking about I am half asleep at the moment. I usally post songs on status updates on here. I share about 5 random songs from my many many collection of playlists I have created.
Take care! sorry if none of this made sense.

Lol, should i be afraid that I understand what you're saying?
Sounds like you're getting through things and learning to stand up for yourself and trust yourself. Too much today our society indoctrinates us into sheep and followers. Question everything and learn good judgment. You sound a bit like my Mom. She had her backbone when it was needed, did she ever. but she would be so sweet to people. i was always afraid someone would take advantage of her.
sounds like you're on the right track. just dont ever let this world make you jaded. despite it all theres alot of beauty and good in the world if we will see it. And bring a camera, and not drop it.
Now i'll probably drop mine lol.
You are here.....you cany change the past. you can change how it affects you and learn from it. From here, well whatever you want to do if you believe then you can do it. To people of the establishment hippies were all bad. To the counter-culture hippies were all good and what was needed. We need free spirits, creatives, people who can rise above their own troubles...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ts-lkL… Oleg Byonic, this reminds me when I was a kid. Riding my bike across the field of grass and flowers, under the tall powerlines and huge puffy clouds. Such fun back then lol.
Life is funny, we can change so much. maybe you'll write again and dig deep into photography, or maybe you'll become a cat groomer. You'll find something, or it will find you.
take good care my friend. Sleep well.

Tell ya what, I will take you seriously and you can relax. Lol, I would never do that to you. life shouldnt be so serious and we shoudnt feel that we have to be a certain way to be an adult. After all, its your life and theres never enough time. How you are is u to you.
What i'm practicing at the moment. Working on something and I have a hard time placing things so it looks natural. So I have youtube going and a cold beer and just lookng at the pic and letting ideas come.
Isnt it odd how we will get frustrated and angry at ourselves sometimes easily. because we desire...to create or be a certain way. Just look, detach, lose yourself. One idea is to become your subject. Drink it in. become that flower, blown by the wind, courted by a bee. We experience life in all the senses, so why not create such that we use as many senses as possibe to enjoy the work?
I'm wearing out the soapbox and one day people will hide it lol. Crazy days my friend. please do take good care of yourself and yours.

I dunno descriptive writing, shitty poems, the apocalypse.. dumb young people stuff. lol had started a fantasy novel kind of thing.... but I dunno I've lost nearly all my writing because my hard drive had crashed and of course.. like an idiot I never backed anything up. That was all about 8 to ten years ago. I haven't written since.

Ahhh, it hurt you. Is a hard thing to overcome the pain. lots of growing pains in learning any artform. I want to take a leap, and forgive me if I land in a pile of my own making. But maybe your creative impulses are backedup inside. if you ever decide to try again....get a journal or notebook. Write a couple pages every night. No excuses. Just sit down and when you stare at the page just write whatever comes to mind. One sentence, a paragraph or just a word. Doesnt matter if its good or shitty. Then maybe pick one thing....say a turtle. Write two pages about a turtle. Write then about a situation. The conflicts of being a turtle with two heads. get comfortable w/ writing, and not judging your work. And being able to write about something w/out thinking how it is or how bad it might be.
maybe one day.
