CommanderEVE In reply to LiveFox [2010-06-08 19:26:11 +0000 UTC]

16...Gigs?... O_O; Damn, I think thats the most a Personal Computer like mine and yours can handle on the mother board. But then again i bet that are some that can hold more.

Ah, you like nVIDIA. For me it's ATI and AMD all the way, they work well together.

CommanderEVE In reply to LiveFox [2010-06-08 19:56:52 +0000 UTC]

XD it's ok, I had the opposite Mobo before the PC I have now. LOL I had Intel and nVIDIA before. O___O; I found it wasn't acting as good as AMD even though I hear some where that Intel are better at running prgrams and multi-tasking.

Wow... That sounds like a work-staion for ECC RAM. or is it EEC RAM? I forgot there are so mnay types of RAM> But I would like XDR RAM.I hear it's kick ass for everything!

LiveFox In reply to CommanderEVE [2010-06-14 01:28:18 +0000 UTC]

newer Intel processors have hyperthreading, which help with simultanious tasks.... but though Intel is better than AMD usually, their prices do not make it worth that. For a slightly better processor it's twice the cash, so I tend to go with AMD.

But for graphics...Nvidia is my choice because it supports both DirectX and OpenGL, and some programs/games will not run on ATI cards.

CommanderEVE In reply to LiveFox [2010-06-16 09:49:35 +0000 UTC]

I know a friend that has hyper threading. it does seem a little better then a usual 2.6GHz Quad Core CPU.

Oh, I didn't know that. >.<

LiveFox In reply to CommanderEVE [2010-06-18 19:14:17 +0000 UTC]

hyperthreading is nice over time, especially when using the computer for big tasks, like rendering or video editing.

and yeah, not all things have support for ATI cards

Like it, would be interesting to gather a bunch of old ugly beat up computers and scatter them around the monster tower with expressions on their monitors. Maybe a little fog for effect.

i have an old win98, but i cant get the case open and it has no monitor

scion04 In reply to LiveFox [2010-06-07 16:43:31 +0000 UTC]

I just put the word out among friends and family and ended up with all sorts of stuff. It seems most people keep their old computers when they by a new one and are happy to have someone take the old one away. Around here you have to pay a recycle fee to dispose of a old computer. Also some thrift stores in my area sell old ones. I am sure you could round up a few old computers. They do not even need to be running Windows. If you use a Linux live CD all you need is a working CD drive and 256 mb of ram, no hard drive needed. Rent a fog or smoke machine and snap away. Just a thought . Take it easy, Doug

LiveFox In reply to scion04 [2010-06-07 18:28:27 +0000 UTC]

lol I know! I've put out the word, which is how I aquired the old Win98, and I tried to instal Ubuntu on it before it crashed and now refuses to turn on (still can't get into the case, it uses sepcial screws...)

If I could get random computer parts, I would be in hog heaven, I swear I have a fetish for computers or something....I was practically hyperventilating when that monster desktop came in and I started building him.

Try using a live CD like Puppy Linux, can't get the other computer open? Some old G man rig with special screws or something. To bad i am on the east coast would love to help.

Yeah, I'm looking at getting something to remove them. Worst to worst, I'll break the case (though I'd rather not)
