Head canon:America likes to dress up secretly & is friends with Poland, who helps him pick out clothes. Only Canada, Mexico & the US states know. America doesn't tell anyone because he is worried of what the others think.
This pretty much, England got America to go on a date with him, America chose to show England what he likes. It looks like England likes how America looks. Also what England means is that Canada doesn't know England is dating America. I like the idea of Canada possibly having a sibling complex & being over protective of Alfred.
