PROLOGUE

Whispers of the night seemed to tug at the tortoiseshell she-cat, as she ran through the forest. The three kits in her mouth cried, one a grey tabby tom, another a fiery red tom, and the other a tortoiseshell like her mother.

The mother leaped from a branch, and onto the ground, aware of any predators that may be stalking her. Her heart skipped two beats as rustling in the leaves behind her became more louder to hear. As she ran, the kits cried even more from the jostling and quick movement. The mother was a rogue, along with the other kits that she bore, but she was not aloud to have any kits, it was forbidden for her to.

Suddenly a large long-haired tom leaped from the bushes and tackled the mother, sprawling the kits onto the ground floor. "My kits!" the mother rasped, as the tom pushed down on her neck. "You aren't going anywhere, Echo. If you thought that you could get away with this, then you're wrong." the tom growled, and with one menacing paw-swipe, the mother lay still.
