Grief entered the city, looking about. Gicandice had called him here, supposedly to have some fun. Suddenly a voice called out, and Grief paused.
"Gicandice is happy you came."
Grief watched as his sister stepped from behind a building. The fox frowned as he saw her. Something was wrong. The way she was dressed, and the way she walked was not like the Gicandice he knew.
"Gicandice?" Grief said wearily. "What's going on? Why the new clothes?"
Gicandice smiled, and Grief felt a shiver run down his spine at the predatory look in her eyes.
"Grief is so stupid," she said, purring slightly. "He thinks Gicandice is his sister."
"What are you talking about?" Grief demanded. "Make sense for once."
POW
Grief staggered backwards, his cheek stinging. He touched the spot and looked at his fingers. Blood! His eyes fell to Gicandice's hand. Her claws were extended, and he could see the red on them. She had hit him! Slashed him across the face! Gicandice had never done that before. Grief felt confused. The cat opposite him giggled.
"Still can't understand, Grief?" she asked, baring her teeth in a cruel smile. "Gicandice isn't the sister Grief knows. Grief's sister is beaten. Gicandice has her tied up, and she won't be coming to save, Grief."
Grief backed away, reaching out for something to use as a weapon. Was this Gicandice really saying she was a clone or some other dimensional version of his sister? He looked in her eyes, searching for the truth. What he saw chilled him. There was none of the innocence or cheerfulness that he normally associated with the sister he knew. This Gicandice was cold and sinister. She was a hunter, and the way she stared at Grief told him that HE was her newest prey. Grief felt his hand touch a tall spire, and he grabbed it, tearing it free.
"I don't care who you think you are," he said, trying to she her he wasn't afraid. "You won't beat me."
He held his improvised weapon at the ready. Gicandice laughed, clapping her hands.
"Oh yes," she giggled. "Gicandice knew grief would provide such good fun. Gicandice will enjoy beating Grief until he is no more."
She charged, claws bared, and Grief braced for the impact. This was going to be the toughest fight of his young life...
