Kiara-Ne and Esca walked along, side by side. They were touring Snottingham Castle, the base of operations for the Mercia chapter of the Dark Egg Legion.
"You've done very well for yourself, Child," Kiara-Ne said.
Esca smiled.
"Thank you, Mom."
Kiara-Ne glanced at the young snake. He tended to look upon her as a mother figure. Not that long ago, she had found him, and taken him into her care, recognizing a hidden power within him. She helped to train him in the ways of the Dark Egg Legion, and eventually integrated him into the Mercia Chapter. Now their efforts were paying off.
"I take it Lord Mordred's whereabouts are still unknown?" Kiara-Ne asked.
"They are, Mom," Esca answered with a nod. "And I have ensured that I am to be next in line for the position of Grandmaster. My confirmation will be announced to the rest of the Chapter tonight. You will stay for it, won't you?"
Kiara-Ne thought about it for a brief moment before giving Esca a sly smile.
" I have important work to do," she said, "but I think I can spare a few hours to watch you take command."
Esca hissed happily. He knew his 'mother' was not one to display her emotions openly, but he could tell she was proud of him, and he vowed to himself not to disappoint her...
