Description
Ash is a menace. We’re all aware of that. But consider where that behavior might have come from?A gas leak? Pants too tight during her Scene phase? Violent video games?
No. All fingers point to Annabelle “Anna” Hamrick-her mother. Maybe not for ALL the reasons Ash is the way she is, but at least SOME.
Annabelle Hamrick (don’t call her Annabelle, by the way. It evokes a helpless southern belle connotation that she does NOT appreciate) is the original gangster, in Ash’s eyes. A renegade and reckless reporter who couldn’t keep herself at a single publication for more than a few months at a time; she hopped from one to another for years before finally finding her rhythm back home in Austin, Texas. Sometimes it was simply because she didn’t care for the stifling management, other times because she published hit pieces that may or may not have been true just to get people talking.
In truth, Anna Hamrick knew that the key to successful journalism wasn’t being clever, or thought-provoking, or even *correct*. The key was to be as *inflammatory* as possible. Because oddly enough, the truth would start to shake down if you rattled the branches enough.
It is very, very, VERY fortunate that Anna Hamrick was a journalist in the early days of the internet and not the present. The last thing the world needed was AshMom with a Twitter.
Against all odds, her career proved to be wildly successful. When she wasn’t trying to piss off politicians or writers with a bogus article, she was in the trenches investigating even the smallest of leads for a good story. She became engrossed in the biker gang wars of Austin in ‘91. The PeachCorp scandals of ‘92. The “Bat Country” fiasco in ‘93. She even found herself at the heart of LlamTech’s transition of power-one where they quickly went from quirky little technology company of the past, the cutthroat conglomerate of the 21st century.
The robots were a lot less scary back then, mind you. Anna still hasn’t quite caught on that her daughter is picking fights with a company that is a very far cry from the LlamTech she knew.
As much as she would like for things to be otherwise, her days of being on the frontlines are behind her. Being a parent sort of stifles your desire to put yourself in harms way to make a name for yourself. Unfortunately, being a chronic menace is something that appears to run deep in the Hamrick blood; as even the responsibility of raising Ash and Aidan kept her on the sidelines for only a *short* while.
Now the Editor-in-chief of the Austin Globe, her position at the top of the journalism ladder is cemented in place. There’s no *need* for her to dive into danger for a story. Her younger and scrappier reporters can handle that for her!
That, as we could expect, is not how things go. Even with her infamous reputation following her, you can’t stop Anna Hamrick from hustling mob bosses, sleazy businessmen, and other charlatans out of information for kicks.
Just as any supportive parent should be, Anna is Ash’s number one fan-popping into streams now and again to offer words of encouragement and the occasional bit of traumatizing (at least for Ash) fan-service.
AshMom plays dumb, but she may or may not LIVE for stealing attention from her daughter’s audience.
Beyond wearing tight shirts and bending over in the background of Ash’s stream, Anna does very little to intervene with the streams themselves. No matter how many life-and-death scraps her daughter seems to find herself in, AshMom thinks it’s best to let her girls learn to solve problems on their own. It’s working so far!
In all, Anna Hamrick is competent. Sexy. Stylish. Efficient. Brave. Vain. Egotistical. Horrible. Manic. A-
Okay, opinions on her vary wildly depending on who you ask. Nonetheless, she is a woman who has seen a thing or two and knows damn well how to handle herself.
And unfortunately, Ash wants to be just like her.
