No, no post work.
just a "negative power" standard VOC mandelbulb formula (z=z^p+c , positive sin in the latest version )
I didn't save the precise settings to this particular one but it's power -2 or below and phong palette. Negative powers bring very different kinds of mandelbulbs, right choice of color palette and low iteration help a lot for smoothness in VOC.
I made a series of these skulls by tweaking power, iteration and bailout variables. You can see them at :
