OK wow. I had way to much fun with this. I probably won't win, but entering was worth it just for all the ideas I got to play with.

OK STORY TIME GO

I've always loved themed designs. Not stuff like, "oh lol hes music themed so he wears headphones and has a music note stamped on his butt.." but real themed designs, as in the character has a distinct personality and it shines through in their design. The type of things you see in those behind-the-scenes movie extras.
I think that's something that's lost in character design here on DA, most characters I see are just different colors stamped on the same lineart, no individuality beyond fur markings.
So kit holds a design contest based on originality and effort? Yesplz.

Now a bit on the actual design-

Obviously there wasn't a personality or anything to go on, so I went to a random word generator and worked on the adjective it gave me- pride.
I knew beforehand that I wanted to design a dog, because the diversity gives me lots of freedom. I ended up making it a doberman/border collie cross, because I thought a doberman suited the prideful, chest-out stance I wanted, and a border collie gave me some good color leeway, and fluff. Because fluff is good. The cross ended up working really well for what I wanted.
Most of the emphasis went to the chest, because that's what I think of when I thing of pride- someone rich and elegant with a puffed out chest and upturned nose, which I tried to translate here (see, even the nose is a bit snubbed up Can you tell I loved doing this?). It ended up coming out very angular, which I liked.
For the colors and markings, I shamelessly chose a personal favorite of mine- merle with tan points. Because pretty, but once again I think it works well. The blue-white brightened the design a bit and the eyes bring that out a bit more.
All in all, I really liked how this turned out in the end. Did I go a bit overboard? Hell yes. Do I care? Hell no. I had a blast. While I did set off intending to try and win, about halfway through I said "screw it, I'm doing this how I want."

tl;dr- I have too much free time on my hands. I also have the ability to recite my trains-of-thought step by step.
