The scene finally resolved itself into one of my usual drabbles, which I'm including here, for what it's worth.

Her lips and tongue trace over disfigured, shining skin, producing the merest wisp of feeling from nerve-deadened scar tissue patched jaggedly around his neck. He can only stand there stupidly and accept the caress, helpless to know how to respond.

He turns away, unable to watch her, ashamed that this body, this ghastly, aging collection of bones and scars, is all he has to offer her— with her glowing beauty, her body’s lush promise of youth.

Then her tongue sweeps over the edge of his scar, and his body arches into the sudden onslaught of sensation from sensitive, untouched flesh.
