Former North Western Railway Controller, Sir Charles Topham Hatt inspects bullet ridden NWR No.D1 ‘Daisy’.

The unique BR Single Car Class 101 DMU, was caught in the crossfire during a mission against Communist Partisans in Manchester.

Work was quickly taken to repair the engine, but with both fuel tank and engine damaged, the engine was used as a glorified coach until withdrawal in 1978.

In 1990, the DMU was restored back to working order on the
Ffarquhar Branch Heritage Railway.
