Description Kyouji watches Sakumo over the top of his teacup. They are sitting in the White Fang's kitchen and, as a habit, Kyouji's wire spools are in the middle of the table along with the older shinobi's tanto. "I haven't seen you out on the field lately, Sakumo-san."
Sakumo snorts into his cup. "You're not subtle at all, Kyouji-kun, but thanks for the half-assed effort. You know very well why I haven't been on any missions."
The brown-haired jounin puts down his cup very deliberately. "You are shinobi, Sakumo-san. A tool of your village. So you made a mistake that could very well cost us the war. You still have your duties."
Steely eyes meet lighter silver-blue. "It was not a mistake, Kyouji-kun," Sakumo informs Kyouji, a touch of warning in his voice as he pours them both another cup of tea. "Were that situation to arise again, I would still choose to save my teammates."
"My apologies." Sakumo can't tell if Kyouji actually means what he said-it's just Kyouji's nature, he supposes, like it is Orochimaru's, to be enigmatic enough that his sincerity is questionable at best-, but the other man is already speaking again. "How is Kakashi-san? I hear rumors about his skill, but I've yet to be on any missions with him."
"That's because you're a stuck-up brat who only associates with ninja of equal or higher rank." Sakumo sets down his own cup and looks at the weapon from which his nickname is derived. It would be so easy..."Kakashi is getting a lot of heat for my decision."
Kyouji's hand is suddenly on top of the tanto, his eyes narrowing. "You are shinobi, Sakumo-san," he repeats, holding the other man's gaze. "Seppuku doesn't suit you."
"Kyouji-kun." Sakumo glares at him, warning enough for him to get his hand off the tanto or risk losing it.
The other man's eyes are filled with contempt, and just a little pity. Kyouji respected Sakumo well enough, even after he botched the mission to save his comrades, but that respect is fading with this turn of events. His smile is sharp and unforgiving for what Sakumo is considering. " Very well. If it will make you feel better..." He slides the tanto towards the White Fang as he stands up. "...By all means, go right ahead, Sakumo-san."
