Description
Replaying old versions of Minecraft is like traveling backwards in time, or something along those linesTerrain generated in and buildings built legitly in Alpha 1.1.2_01
Video of the buildening, modeling & rendering: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDybYv… [6:18]
I tried to match the style of Minecraft more than usual, notice the water, clouds, fog and lighting. Might've set the resolution too high though...

The most obvious thing is that you should only use blocks that were present in alpha.
But what exactly is alpha style? Do you mean the way players build things when they're first starting out the game?

Well, from what I remember, people used to build (and new people still build) houses entirely out of planks, with glass blocks (can also use panes now to save time) along the whole wall as windows.
I dug up some of my old screenshots, and they confirm that people built their houses out of pretty much just planks or just cobblestone, with some players using a mixture of both and also wood.
On servers, pretty much anything goes (or went), you can still find servers like this today, but you'll maybe have to look for a while before you find an active one.
For smaller communities, little wooden houses worked great
You might also find it interesting to do some interior underground design (note the fake bed): just slap some wood all over the walls

I haven't been into Minecraft since the 1.8 update, though after watching a lot of videos about the debunked ideas of Mojang, I wished that those things were there. It would be more fun if the crying obsidian was there too, you could make an obsidian dam and put it there so it would look like its leaking.

Yep, this was a thing. *sigh* I wasn't even part of minecraft till after 1.8, (the original one, the adventure update.) due to money problems. But I was following since early alpha. ... Minecraft has just died between then and now. Not everything is bad with new minecraft, but it deffinetly took a wrong direction. They should have stopped after the ender dragon.

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with the current version. Although it's vastly different from earlier versions, it still has that core charm to it. It also shines because of the new possibilities, new mechanics and new terrain gen (yes, it's actually gotten better).
When I played this Alpha version, I had to adapt to the old ways. I could no longer go on extreme journeys without risking getting sent all the way back if I died, I could not map the terrain I was walking through in-game, I could not trust animals to stay in the minecarts I put them in (they despawn if they get too far away, and all that's left is an empty cart), and I had to spend every night awake, either listening to zombie moans or being outside whacking them. Sure the click-mining exploit is fun, but the old version has less features (wow.) and therefore it is easier to run out of things to do.
If you're talking about multiplayer... sure, it was huge fun back in the day when the only choice was "survival multi player". Servers were large and players were mostly free to do what they wanted. Today you'll find servers bogged down with plugins and custom spawns that require you to use a portal to get to somewhere you can actually do something productive (albeit in the wilderness where you could really just play single player).
When something gets popular it will attract people, also more people who're just looking to have some cheap fun (griefers &/or generic spammers/idiots). Such is the situation of Minecraft to some extent, and the only thing you can do is either find a better server/community or try to ignore the bad people.
sorry i wrote an essay

I can't even get on multiplayer, so I was only talking about the single player. And I never said anything was wrong with it, but it could do without some things. (Bunnies? Seriously?) Don't get me wrong, I like bunnies, but I see no point here.

Horses are good for travel, and if you don't like them you can use them as a source for leather. Bunnies are a source of food too. I guess people just wanted more mobs.

I recall everyone saying they DIDN'T want the bunnies. Like I said, horses are fine, I regularly use them.

The minecraft 1.7.3 was probably one of the most popular updates. If only they could have gone back to the old cobblestone.

In my first world, I was too impatient the first morning after night so I dug out too early and got murdered by a spider, I then made a new world and deleted the first one after some time. I still have my second world though

I really enjoyed your video! I liked hearing the old sounds again, and see the jumping creepers? Lol.
Thanks for sharing!

It was a challenge to get the old sounds to remain old, even the old launcher would keep downloading new sounds until i made the folder read-only
Yeah, all kinds of mobs used to jump around for no reason at times, and you often found hostile mobs that would just stand still and stare at you.
No problem!

That's the lovely old firespread & everlasting log fires. You could light up entire forests and they would continue to burn eternally, keeping the area lit at night (and spawning passive mobs (that then proceeded to jump into the fires and get roasted))
