Very nice look to these! They'd be annoying to clean if used for food... but they still look spiffy.

Oh, they're so cuttteeee!!!

... stock removal, right? if they were forged the file grooves would be all weird. which would be cool....

Logan-Pearce In reply to Mitchel-Jacobsen [2011-10-24 00:16:56 +0000 UTC]

Right?!

Naw, I forged them. I only hammered out where the blade would be though, but it's just like my other rasps on here.

Mitchel-Jacobsen In reply to Logan-Pearce [2011-10-24 03:44:34 +0000 UTC]

So hammered to flatten the grooves?

Only the half of the blade that wedges into the edge.

would love to be carrying these around (probably illegal)
i really just like wide bladed knives and these are great

It'd be awesome if you could. I wish I could. People usually freak out when I pop out a pocket knife. I couldn't imagine what they would do if I had one of these.

abomablenoman In reply to Logan-Pearce [2011-10-27 00:38:26 +0000 UTC]

I don't get why it's so illegal to carry around a large knife but you can have a concealed firearms licence.

I mean, yes a knife longer than 5 1/2 inches (approximately depending on state) can be very lethal, but only if you have the skill to use it effectively.

A gun on the other hand, requires virtually no skill to be dangerous (Nothing against guns, they're delicious, but it just doesn't make sense).

I want to be able to storm about in public with a long sword.

Logan-Pearce In reply to abomablenoman [2011-11-05 11:55:00 +0000 UTC]

Yo, I agree. You know what really strikes me as odd. That they won't even sell knife magazines in most grocery stories or wal-mart-like stores that I have been to. Not in the states that I've traveled to at least. They do have like 3-4 gun magazines though.

I know what you are saying. I like guns. I don't LOVE them like I do knives, but I do like them. The only thing I can think of is that knives are easier to get away with killing someone? Since there could be no sound where unless the gun has a silencer its noticed? I mean I don't know. I never spent a lot of time thinking about it, but still.

Right!? If I could have a sword in public I'd make a Buster sword and walk around town like that, just to do it. xD

However, if you did do that now, someone official looking with a badge would come up really quickly and say,

Concerned citizen: "SIR, PLEASE PLACE THE INCREDIBLY LARGE SWORD YOU HAVE STRAPPED TO YOUR BACK ON THE GROUND, STEP BACK, AND LAY FACE DOWN ON THE GROUND WITH YOUR HANDS ON YOUR HEAD. IF YOU REFUSE TO COMPLY I MUST MAKE USE OF MY 5096804 OBSCENELY LARGE CONCEALED HAND GUNS."

Passerby:

...

"HE HAS A SWORD ON HIS BACK AND IS ATTACKING THE MAN WITH AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF LARGE FIREARMS!"

Mass hysteria ensues.

Heck yes! Slice! There goes his arm! :mawhaha:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

abomablenoman In reply to Logan-Pearce [2011-12-15 03:10:04 +0000 UTC]

the thing is, now that you sliced his arm off, once the media gets a hold of it they'll shove all the gun related news and anything else out of the way to say,

"Man with arms, now has only one arm"

Then every suburban parent will think that you're a pedo for no particular reason.

and those suburban housewives are scary 0_o

classicEIGHT [2011-10-23 23:42:27 +0000 UTC]

I fell in love instantly. The design is simple, the edges are straight across, the flad-edge cleaver look suits the rasp very well! I love how the texture gave it something a little extra. I may be a little bias though, I love the look that a clever style blade carries, the straight edge all the way along the top and the handle recessing from the bottom just a bit, leaving the blade's edge to hang down lower than the knuckles of its wielder. Very nice work!

Logan-Pearce In reply to classicEIGHT [2011-10-26 06:48:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man. I'm really glad you like them. I really like this look for them as well. I'm a pretty big fan of cleavers in general. They just look badass.

Ahhh Aesthetics... I'd scarecly do anything if it weren't for things looking good. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Logan-Pearce In reply to classicEIGHT [2011-11-05 12:00:25 +0000 UTC]

Same here! I don't think I would ever do anything if it wasn't for aesthetics. I have a hard time with mundane looking knives. Even though there is still beauty in them, I have a hard time making them over more art style knives. It's a war I tell you! A war.

classicEIGHT In reply to Logan-Pearce [2011-11-06 19:21:19 +0000 UTC]

So, I guess is a good thing my design is all fancified and stuff, eh? GO ME! XD

I hear ya though, regular looking knives are still good, but I don't see them in any light past "Functional". But a more unique looking knife I feel bad about using. I'm not going to lie, I'm probably going to be using the Havoc design you'll be working on. But if thats the case, thats more business for you, cause I'll need a second for display purposes!

Logan-Pearce In reply to classicEIGHT [2011-11-13 22:48:05 +0000 UTC]

Go you! I need to send you a picture of what the knife looks like now. To make sure you like it so far. I'm waiting on brown leather to come in. I'll definitely send you a picture of it soon.

I could see you using the knife. I think its a good knife for both purposes really. It has flare and also would be great for using. I like the way you designed the blade for sure.

classicEIGHT In reply to Logan-Pearce [2011-11-14 05:05:36 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'M happy that YOU'RE happy!

I can't wait to see some shots of it. Havoc has been in my mind, and a few slips of paper for... jeez... at LEAST 5, 6 years. I really can't believe that I'll be seeing a physical creation of it! I'm thrilled beyond words!

Aw, should we send balloons? lol

I assume bladeslinger is correct in handle assumption? I can see these being on a chuckwagon... Beautifully executed.

Yup! It's Osage Orange. Thank you! I've made this design before, but it's one of my favorites.

They like the color blue. So blue balloons!

Nice job mate, always love rasp/file knives. Nice mix of modern in the design, and old in the material choice. My oppinion on tech tanto blades not withstanding, beautiful job! Also love the Osage on the handles. Beautiful work.

Logan-Pearce In reply to bladeslinger [2011-10-24 00:19:54 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, man! I love osage, but there aren't a lot of knives that I like to see them on. This is basically the only one I've made that I like it on.

bladeslinger In reply to Logan-Pearce [2011-10-24 06:51:38 +0000 UTC]

A fair point, has to be the right steel to warrant it, generally i prefer darker timbers, but sometimes a blade just screams for it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Logan-Pearce In reply to bladeslinger [2011-10-26 07:20:53 +0000 UTC]

I'm the same way. Its really hard for me to put yellow on a knife. I'm not a big fan of yellow or orange, so I find it hard to even talk myself into putting osage orange on a knife. I'll definitely put cococolo or ironwood on something faster than osage, but I do like it for this one. Sadly, it's the only one I'm okay with putting it on. I mean the wood is really nice.

People do not understand the constant battle we knife makers face.

Logan-Pearce In reply to bladeslinger [2011-10-28 10:54:17 +0000 UTC]

Right? Having to go through all that trouble. Geez. We should get paid just to think.

bladeslinger In reply to Logan-Pearce [2011-10-28 12:33:06 +0000 UTC]

That'd be painful. I'd prefer to get paid to beat steel.
