Wow, that looks pretty brutal
Might I ask what the permanent effect is, or is it just a feeling thing? I've heard of this being done before, but I'm not sure what the... point (?) is? I don't mean to offend at all, I find it very interesting

There aren't any real permanent effects the piercings from the hooks heal up quite nicely leaving little to no scaring. People do suspensions for a variety of reasons, I did this particular suspension first as a right of passage and to test myself, and just happened to find out that I love the sensation of flight I got out of it when the endorphins kicked in; it was a high like nothing I've ever experienced.
On the note of my tongue splitting, I will surely post at least a shot or two of it when I have it; since the laws have changed so much in recent years it has proven a task to find someone to perform the procedure so it looks like I will be getting my tongue pierced first and split it myself using the mono-filament aka fishing line method. I do not (by the way) in any way recommend anyone try to split their tongue themselves, it can be VERY dangerous if not done by or supervised by a doctor or profeshional.

It is most often done with a surgical grade scalpel or a surgical lazer, although some self moders use the binding method where a mono filament is laced through a preexisting piercing and tightened over time.
For mine the artist will be using a scalpel.

Cool, I was reading a article on extreme body modification and how people have been arrested for doing it. Interesting stuff. I think I saw someone do a tongue splitting with this strange iron rod that was heated up. How long does a tongue split last? Your tongue heals itself after a few months right?

The split is permanent if you take care of it right whilst it's healing.

It goes a little like this get the hooks pierced in, get rigged up, lift off, and enjoy the high... The only preparation I really needed was mental, if you keep your mind set on "ok I can do this" the whole deal goes down w/o a hitch, the whole battle is mental. Anyone (in reasonable heath) can do it physically.
