Description
Just got done with this. Looks a bit less derpdederp than the last one, and should be riggable/animatable with little to no trouble (leaving that for tomorrow, though). This has two or three influences. The first is the Sonic CD intro/exit animations. My goal in life is to have a Sonic game where you can do stuff like in those movies, if I have to make it myself.
The second is the screensaver that you were able to get with S3&K for the PC. The resemblance to that shouldn't be hard to mistake. I basically took the coloring and shading style from that.
The third influence was I examined the sprites for Sonic 2 and Sonic 3, and tried to get the posture similar.
The forth was the official manual and advertisement art for Sonic 2 and Sonic CD. I tried to get the proportions, head shape, and general spike curvature to conform to these, as they are, for me, the most pleasing proportions: he's leaner than the normal 'classic' Sonic, but maintains his roundness, which in my opinion helps add to the dynamic feel of the animation in the Sonic CD movies, and his spikes are, by virtue of their shortness, more saw-blade and less hairdo.
One gets the impression with the modern Sonic that if he Spin-attacked you, it wouldn't hurt, since it would be like petting him with the fur. The older Sonic, on the other hand, seemed quite saw-like when rolled up. Not a slam: I loved the games up through SA2, art included. I just like the older art better.
Anyway, I thought I'd run off a few animations with this guy. We'll see how they turn out.
