If I had the power to change the future,
To see the unseen and know the unknown,
To give life to the lifeless and hope to the hopeless,
To end the evil in the world,
Would it work?
Could I prevent the inevitable
And stop the unstoppable?
Could I leave the Earth in peace,
With no more fear, anger or hatred?
Would human nature allow it
To continue for more than a week?
More than a day?
More than an hour?
Could I feed the hungry?
Quench the thirsty?
Clothe the naked?
Even if I could, what about death?
Could I calm those who are afraid?
Could I comfort those who mourn?
Grief and pain strike to the heart.
If I could protect those I loved
From hurt and sickness,
From despair and loneliness,
From shame and emptiness,
Could I save them from themselves?
And why must the worst always happen to the best?
Could I make the planet fair, just, and merciful?
Why do we lose those close to us?
Is it punishment or a way to make us stronger?
Could I keep that from happening to anyone else?
And if I could, do I have the right? Should I?
