Very nice colouring  I really like the extreme desaturation/lightening to imply the depth.  I'd be interested to know how you did that if you don't mind explaining?  Obviously I can think of a few ways to achieve it but yours looks *particularly* good so I'd love to learn your preferred method ;D

On this one, for the deep, i just paint over all layers with a blur brush with the same color than the background
