What's ironic is they think female gladiators as well as ancient Greek amazons may have very well dressed like Red Sonja. While the gladiator's case it was probably because the audience wanted to see blood (and lots of it), for the amazons it was probably due to the fact that they favored mobility and speed over brute strength and protection.
