Description
To make it clear, here's my desktop pic. This is one of the places on Earth that make me happy, I adore it. I wish I could be there this summer again. It is in Carpathian mountains in Ukraine, one of the most famous hiking roots.
One of the highest elevations of the Carpathians are found in the Chornohora ("Black Mountain", but not MonteNegro
At the southeast end of Chornohora, on the mountain Pip Ivan, a large astronomical observatory was built by a Polish and French partnership. This large structure has long been abandoned and has the appearance of a mountaintop castle ruin. Today, most of the Chornohora region is protected by the state. The northern part is territory of the Carpathian National Park, while the southern part is territory of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve. [link]
In winter, which is much longer here than it might be in cities, the ruined old Observatory is covered with snow. It looks miraculous, like many weird things in the mountains... People use to call snow-covered giant "White Elephant". Strange: Black Mountain and White Elephant, isn't it?
Meanwhile, the Observatory is the most high-situated architectural unit in Ukraine.

Просто обалденное место, мы там ещё не бывали. А надо. Западная Украина просто великолепна. есть много мест, о которых даже не догадываешься. Так ходишь ходишь, и можно просто так наткнуться на заюрошеный костёл или развалины средневекового замка.
