Description When you first open your eyes, you're not sure why you woke up.  It is still dark out and Daryl is sleeping peacefully next to you.  You take a moment to appreciate the way he looks when he's sleeping, relaxed and peaceful.  Then you hear a noise, like a strange shuffling.  Fear shoots through you and you snap your head up to look around.  You and Daryl had set up a small tent near the edge of camp.  Rick trusted you both to protect the borders.  But no matter how many walkers you see or kill, you are still terrified at the sight of them.  It's something you never got over and Daryl said it's a good thing, that it means you're alive.  You hear the noise again and shake Daryl awake.  He wakes up immediately and you'd almost never know he was asleep.
"I heard a noise...I think one of them is out there,"  you whisper fearfully.
"I'll go check it out,"  Daryl replies without hesitation.  He slips out of bed and grabs his cross bow.
You grab his hand.  "Daryl.....be careful."
He squeezes your hand in answer and slips out of the tent.  You sit up in bed and hug your knees, thinking about the knife you keep beside your bed.  You tried not to think about Daryl in the dark with a walker.  You feel yourself start to shake and remind yourself to breath in and out.  It's quiet outside the tent now and your heart races.  Daryl should be back by now.
The tent flap is opened and you jump.  Daryl slips in with his bow and you breath in relief.  He sets his bow down and slides back into bed, hugging you close.
"What was it?"  you ask.
"A walker,"  he states gruffly.  You loved how, even though he knew you were afraid, he didn't baby you.  You nod.
"C'mon, baby, let's get back to sleep,"  he murmurs, laying on the sleeping bag and pulling you back down with him.  He tugs the blanket over you both.
"Daryl,"  you whisper, snuggling closer to him, "What if there's more?"
"Don't think about that,"  he says gently.  His hand is warm on your waist and you shiver.
"Okay,"  you breath.
"Hey,"   Daryl says,"  I'm here.  You don't have to worry about nothing."
You smile, even though you know Daryl can't see it in the dark.  "I know."  Daryl kisses your forehead and falls back asleep quickly.  It takes a while for you to sleep again, but you feel safe next to Daryl, no matter what lies outside the tent.
