Description
With the Rio Olympics in full swing, it brought back an old memory of mine. The movie Rio. I drew this piece roughly a week or two ago but I was really hesitant on posting it. This has probably been, for myself, the most sentimental piece I have ever drew as I have a lot of childhood memories associated with it. I would say that this would have been my first fandom xD (not really large enough to call a fandom) but I did start drawing at this stage.Looking back, I know exactly why I loved this movie. First off, its a musical animation! The songs are sooo good! I can't stress that enough! Second, I'm a huge fan of colourful films, with no exception to MLP
Here's a little WIP GIF I put together of the process (Sorry, I didn't take that many photos to start out with):

Ahh so you watched it too!! XD It's such an underated film in the Disney/Pixar dominated industry. It needs more love!
And thank you so much, PonyPoet! You wouldn't believe how grueling it was replicating Jewel's wing.

Yes I did. Technically, Blue sky studios made it, not Disney. That's probably part of the reason it's kind of underappreciated.
You're welcome. ^^

Yeah I was implying it was underated because Disney and pixar dominate the animation industry. Seeing that BSS latest release of ice age 5 shows quite a decline, maybe they'll go back to the Rio franchise xD Hehe I probably have my hopes set too high

Oh, I understand.
I haven't actually seen the latest Ice Age movie, but I do agree that they really seem to be dragging the series out. I guess a third Rio movie could be fun.
Another movie of theirs I like is Epic....though I guess it doesn't really need a sequel.

It is after all, the studio's first hit feature film. The only criticism I have against them is the storyboarding/scripting. The visuals and fluidity is all there! But what would set them out above the rest is just making a coherent storyline. Just compare it to plots like Big Hero 6 and Inside Out and there isnt much of a competition. They make the film's so enjoyable (and relatable) for all ages, not just throwing out tame jokes for the younger viewers. If they do just that, just about any film could make it in the spotlight!
I have never watched Epic I should change that

Yeah, you're right. Big Hero 6 and other such movies are clearly made to appeal to adults as well. It really helps when a movie can be appreciated by the whole family. Of,course, I have seen this taken too far-when they throw in so many refrences and jokes for adults that the kids don't enjoy it anymore. I suppose finding a correct balance can be tricky.

Yes, absolutely! Its mostly the reason why so many of the newer animations are so well received.
Part of it is also making a great character. One that is dynamic and wrestles with a factor. You can't make a person flawless right?

Agreed. Great characters are essential to a great movie, book, TV show, play, etc.
