Description some miniature clay of dim sum (chinese morning snacks?) that I did. They are 1/12th scale and I placed the red saga seed in the top right hand photo for reference of the sizes.

From top middle clockwise:
- Pumpkin Bao (Pumpkin Bun)
- Har Gao (Steamed Shrimp Dumplings)
- Siu Mai (Steamed Meat Dumplings)
- Spring Roll
- Dou Sa Bao (Red Bean Buns)
- some fish thingy which I also dunno the name haha. ><

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lololollipop In reply to WinMush [2009-11-25 16:43:14 +0000 UTC]

oh i buy them str like that, as in they're made already as mini bamboo steamers. Erm I get them from the shop near my house, so I'm not too sure where to get from where you live. You may wanna try to get them online from Thailand if not.

Hi there, I decide to make some minature dim sum myself. Since you had done it so perfectly, can you offer me so tips??
Firstly, how many colors of clay should I buy? I was planning on buying red, yellow, blue, green, white, black, and brown, and to mix and blend other colors when I needed. But somehow, I dont think it will work out really well, what do you think?

Also, for the gloss effect, do you recommend transparent liquid clay? What do you use?

Should I buy any specific tools?

Thanks.... :]

lololollipop In reply to WinMush [2009-11-25 16:48:02 +0000 UTC]

hi! i'm so sorry for the late reply! >< anw here goes:

I only buy the white clay, den I mix in the colours myself using paint or pastel, so that I can get a variety of colours But if you want to buy separate colours, I recommend yellow, white, red, green, brown as the basics, I use these colours a lot with the occasional black or blue.

Mixing colours by yourself can be quite tedious, you must have the patience. and the clay will become a bit harder if u mix in ur own colours but other than that its fine

I use gloss for the glossy effect, but some sauces i use transparent liq clay. depends on the thickness of "liquid"/ sauce I want for the product.

Erm specific tools... I think basic tools like toothpicks, penknife, etc are fine as they can be used for many functions when making the clay stuff.

Yup hope this helps! Have fun making the miniature clay too
