He has also had a military presence in Lebanon during her civil wars He really hates Israel.. he wants his heights back, and now. A lot of people have brushed away his most recent biography that I finished in 2012, which is located here; lombiegurl.deviantart.com/art/… it has information from 2011-2012 This bio contains more of the updated stuff. Overall however, it's been ridiculously hard to track and keep up to date on the Civil War...
Oh trust me with the Assad thing, I didn't like him since the beginning :S I don't support him either. Genocide deniers are horrible D:

I know! I've been following the Syrian Uprisings for quite a long time now, and I completely disagree with Bashar Al-Assad's actions towards his people, in fact, I am disgusted by them.
Well... the issue isn't very 'black' and 'white' but I hope that things over there get solved quite soon. And plus, this biography of the character is EXTREMELY outdated! so I suggest you take a read at this one; [link]

I generally see most of the Middle East as men *I don't want to be sexist..* Lebanon can either be both genders but I see Syria as a guy most of the time in my head. Most of the people who make a Syria O.C make it a girl so the marriage between Egypt and Syria is quite legitimate... but all in all, I make mine a guy regardless the marriage anyway.
