It's very good. I think LeFanu is now a sadly neglected writer. The horror fans should make a bigger fuss over his work.

Tantalizing! I've been wanting to read this story but the library doesn't carry any Le fanu! I have Carmilla since it came with my Vampyr DVD but I'm not a big vampire fiction fan. It's funny how you doΒ art of classy stuff like Charles Dickens and B-movies too. You have such a range, love it.

Thanks! I do like a lot of stuff
Green Tea is quite weird and original, which is why I like it. Carmilla was also a very original story once, but now it's been copied to death.

I like that monkey. He's creepy yet hints at fun, too. I understand the Victorians had a thing for monkeys.Β Β

SPOILERS: This money isn't really a monkey.
I think the Victorians saw monkeys as representatives of wild things and malice. People who weren't integrated in socially accepted circles kept monkeys, like rough sailors and Gypsies. So I think there's a lot to be read into the victorian view on the monkey.

They were popular enough that some one wrote a book on the subject
Notes on pet monkeys and how to manage them
Author:Arthur Henry Patterson Publisher:London : L.U. Gill, 1888.

Of course "managing" them seems to have included a significant degree of corporal punishment

Speaking of Sheridan Le Fanu, I wonder if you're planning to do more of his stories including a certain lesbian vampire or at least how she's accurately described in the novel?

I'll return to Le Fanu. And making a piece on Carmilla is a daunting challenge, but one day I'll be up to ot

Hmmm...maybe you could do a picture of Carmilla bedding/tucking in Laura before drinking her blood or something.

My idea is to make something subtle, rather than having general Spielsdorf charge in with a drawn saber, facing Carmilla with fangs bared.

Β Β  ... I can't be the only one getting a Seriously Unfortunate mental image from that monkey's proprietorial air and the poor Reverend's flop sweat, can I? (He looks like a man who keeps his Monkey somewhere MUCH less comfortable than his shoulder, if you know what I mean).

It's not an allegory on spanking the monkey, if that's what's going around your head

Β I was thinking more "Domestic Abuse" but it's quite fair to say that there would be a monkey on this old prelate's back if it hadn't hopped off to allow the artist a clearer look at him!

It's actually difficult to say what the significance of the demon monkey is in the tale. Bottom line is, I'd say, that it's whatever keeps you worrying in life, eating away at you.

Β I admit to having not read this short story as yet - one must admit to paying more attention to CARMILLA (a rather elegant novella that has elements of interest beyond the frequently-mined "Lesbian Vampires!" vibe; in all honesty adaptations might be stronger, or at least better Horror movies, if they focussed more on the betrayal of trust inherent in Carmilla's systematic deceit and those elements in her methods that we would now recognise as the tendencies of a Serial Killer and less on stuffing as much fan service as possible into the running time).Β

Yes, adaptations of Carmilla has become the cleavage vampire movies.Β
"Green Tea" is a good story, with lots of psychology and creepiness in it. Give it a go, when you feel so inclined.

Audiobooks are also for DA artists who are too busy to sit down and read, but want to partake in good literature without keeping their devoted audience waiting for new art.
