He's my favorite too! A really simple hand puppet, as special effects go, but with tons of details and character.

Don't know if you're familliar with this guy but..
Roger Dicken is one of my creative heroes, and he did the prehistoric monsters for "The Land That Time Forgot" and "Warlords of Atlantis" (among many other things). Here's a very good blog post about his work:

I have never heard of this guy yet he produced some of the highest quality creature FX I have seen!!! Scars of Dracula! The Land that time forgot!
THunderbirds! Alien! THe Blood Beast Terror and THe Creeping Flesh, two of the best designed monsters in British horror cinema!!
THanks for this, I will check out all these films again. THis man deserves his name to be mentioned with the other greats..it was a crime for me to not know of him.
Thanks again!

My pleasure Dicken also worked with Jim Danforth, building the dinos and miniatures for "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth", and Danforth had nothing but the highest praise for Dicken's craft.
He's still around, and apparently he wrote a book a while ago about British Rock N Roll history. So "versatile" is probably a correct word to use about this guy.

This was my favorite monster in that film. It's so great to see fanart of it!

Yep, my favourite as well. And it's "just" a hand puppet, but brought to very vivid life.

Heh. I saw it on TV years ago and the Mogdaan always remained firmly in my memory. As far as the Guardians go (the Atlantean warrior caste), they're apparently modified humans. I think. I don't have the novelization anymore. I do know, though, that during one fight scene, Grogan can be heard saying, "Go for the gills!"

I think it's more effective not showing the faces of the warriors. Then it's up to us to imagine how scary-looking they actually are. I'm a big fan of Roger Dicken, who built and operated the monsters. He always did excellent work with tiny budgets.

Fair enough, I was merely imparting what I remembered from the book.

Never seen this movie Saw a review on it though. This monster and the giant Octopus at the beginning looked amazing.
But your art look so dang good. The monster's face looks truly terrifying. And the men; with them all contorted and juxtaposed against each-other, look great too.

This film is one of my guilty pleasures Β There are lots of monsters in this one, but the "mogdaan" is my favourite. It's basically just a hand puppet created and operated(?) by Roger Dicken. The helmeted guys passing the mosnter are the mermen of Atlantis; amphibic warriors protecting the last of the sunken civilization's cities. In the film their faces are never shown, implying that they look too horrible to be seen.
