As always, an absolute work of art.
Just started working on my own puppet, taking inspiration from your tutorials on constructing your puppets. Been meaning to make something for years but never had the materials or time to get it done, or th patience. Sadly.
But with time I would love to be able to make puppets as brilliant looking as yours
Got to start small first.

Thanks for your kind words It means a lot to me to know that the stuff I do can inspire others to get creative as well. The materials for this puppet are really simple and quite cheap. The fur is a "teddy" novelty fur bought at a local hobby shop, the claws are cardboard dipped in latex, and the face and beak are skush cast latex skins. The most expensive thing is the eyes, which are bought from a taxidermist's supply.
A simple puppet you could start with is the Martian Worm. Here's how you do it:
Get a piece of aluminum wire, and make a small loop at one end. Wrap soft string or yarn around the aluminum wire to create the shape of the worm body. Cover all of the wire except the loop. Take a piece of foam (from an old matress or a non-soapy car wash sponge) and dip it in latex. Sponge latex all over the string body form. Let it dry or use a hairdryer or a heat gun to speed up the drying process. Add at least two more layers of latex. Make an eye or buy a novelty eye, or any kind of fake eye. Heat-glue this eye to the loop shape on the aluminum wire. Now roll small "sausages" out of cotton and dip these in latex. Place them around the eye to create wrinkles. Let it dry. You can now create warts, horns or whatever around the eye by adding drops of latex to the puppet, or dipping your thumb and index finger in latex and rolling bits of cotton between them. This will create spiky horn-like structures, which you glue to the puppet using latex as bonding material. Mix some paint pigments or some acrylic paint to latex, and you have a flexible paint for your puppet. Use another piece of foam to sponge on the paint. Done! Now you have a creepy worm.like creature, which you can animate or wrap around door handles to freak people out.

Oh wow, you make it all sound so magically and amazingly simple! I might have been getting too ahead of myself on the puppet I'm making at the moment.
I'll give the Martian Worm a try first before returning to my other attempt.
I love the way you make the faces and overall appearance of your creatures, they have a realy mythical style. Like they've jumped out of a old book of legends and folklore. Enchanting!
Really looking forward to seeing this creature come to life!
I see that it's fure is tinted lighter around the chest and neck, is this done through paint? As well as the feathers around the head, are they real or very convincing mock ups?

The Martian worm is a really simple puppet, so give it a go
The lighter fur, which is actually mottled, though it doesn't show very well here, is airbrushed acrylic paint. The feathers are real feathers, though I usually prefer to make my own fake ones (don't like parts from real animals). I've had these feathers for at least 15 years in an unopened bag, so I though it was time to put them to good use.

I did base this puppet on the original owlbear drawing from the old D & D Monster Manual. I didn't apply the feathers to the head as in the illustration, though. I always thought he looked like he's wearing a bad toupee!
Now I'm working on puppets of the rust monster and a beholder, but will probably give some other monsters a go too

I've always adored your puppets. Them, and your art as a whole has a fantastic, vintage feel to it. It's looks very home made, and you can really appreciate that. Great work my friend.

Thanks! Yes, my stuff is as home made as it gets I sometimes try out newer, modern materials and techniques, but I always come back to my tried and true tools. I guess it's a question of comfort, but I also hope to show that you can create neat stuff with simple means.
