Valka and Cloudjumper have a deep and beautiful bond and move like a well-oiled machine throughout the movies 2 and 3. Valka doesn't just ride Cloudjumper; she is one with him. The stormcutter couldn't have chosen a better person to be the first dragonrider. Cloudjumper taught Valka what it is to be a dragon, in a time when it should have been impossible for a human to discover that perspective, and that's why these two are my favorite duo of the franchise!By the time we meet them in the second film, Valka can effortlessly dance across the wings of all her dragon friends, but that had to take practice right?

I find it harder to ship her with Stoic, honesty. If Hiccup had simply found a strange dragon lady in movie 2 instead of his mother, I would have never imagined her with Stoic at all.

Very detailed and vibrant. Cloudjumper looks on the verge of 3D. But because every in the foreground is so well done, a few of the background dragons feel a bit distracting in their simplicity. All the same, impressive work.
I agree that those two are the most...dynamic (?) pair. But Hiccup and Toothless are unfairly restricted in comparison.

Thank you so much for this critique! I think I might actually post a version of it without the background dragons. They don't fit as well as I thought when making it. I do love Hiccup and Toothless; it broke my heart when they went their separate ways. If I'd had the time I would've done them for the contest too.

Ugh. That sounded more defensive than I intended. I totally agree that Val and Cloud are the most fun to watch. Just saying the characters with smaller dragons can't really compete with them.
