a samurai...maid? it's so weird >.<
exelent choice of hairstyle BTW, I don't know why you chose green eyes though, I would have left them vacant or black/white
I saw the 'scars' but then I read the description.so I guess she is like penny but more...primitive?
I understand this is a work in progress but that crossguard-tzuba nodachi thingymabob looks a bit plain in design, judging on the color pallete, especial the skin tone, my guess is that you're taking inspiration in old wooden puppets, (I forgot the name of that japanese pupet theater thing) and since the sword uses dust instead of steel for offence anyway, why not give it a wooden-dust weapon? it could be one of those kendou practice sticks or whatnot or an original creation.
rarely, if ever, we see the rwby fanbase pull off the samurai thing correctly. this design does it, however it does not feel RWBYsh enough. it may be too late now perhaps to make any mayor changes though.

And about that thing with Penny... yep, in a way, but a more empty version... for now.

Thanks for another detailed input.
Anyways, I've been thinking of giving her a Shinai (the bamboo-type kendo sword) instead, so I might consider your suggestion. About the lack of "RWBY" vibes, care to elaborate more? I think I could still make significant changes to some extent for this piece, so I'd like to hear more.
Oh and the puppet theater was called Bunraku, btw.
~cheers

thanks for clearing those words, hehe.
the most japanese-theemed characters in RWBY are Adam Taurus with his chokuto (that is what the guard-less straight sword), and yatsuhashi with his over-compenasing two-handed abomination and general samurai theeme.
(and maybe Blake but her outfit really isnt very japanese, so we're not focusing on her)
www.google.com.ar/search?q=ada…
adam's outfit has several layers of clothes: he has a coat over... another coat? and a loincloth on his waist
www.google.com.ar/search?tbm=i…
yatsuhashi also has under-wear (badum tshh) represented on that black tank top, and then some more clth hangs over his trousers and there is the belt over his garb and finally the armor pices go over everithing
yatsu's clothes appear to be inspire partly by a budhist monk's while adam's are sort of a mix of a modern-day suit and hakama.
note that yat's shoulder piece is made of a LOT of pieces and is also triangular in shape, this gives it a more organic feel, almost like scales
who else wears armor? there's team CRDL, velvet , phyrra , jaune and some girls in team INGO. what theese all have in common is tht their armor has very round, organic shapes that 'wrap arround' the body. I belive this was done to give them a more aerodinamic and agile-looking siluette.
the exeption is jaune, who's armor has the most modern appearance, with points, sharp edges, and a white color that makes it look like it's made of some sinthetic material like a some sort of polimer, rather than the reflective pastel-colored metal everyone else sports. I belive this was done in purpose since he is new to the world and the sharp, clean colors and shapes bring to mind the idea of new.
ranmaru's armor is quite large, it adds a lot of shoulder span (is that the term?) and it alters the shape of the siluette quite drastically. this is mostly due to it being similar to the real samurai armors, wich had that effect. not saying making the siluette larger is bad, but the stuff in RWBY has that stylized feel where the clothes envelop the body more closely and the aesthetics of the diferent theems are mixed with current or last century fashion.
or, that is what I observed.
since she is fighting one-handed anyways, may I suggest some asymetry? and perhaps some more modern-looking details here and there to spice it up a bit. don't get me wrong, she look great, but she looks like a character that could show up in almost any anime, rather than a character with RWBY's aesthetics.

Hmm... that gave me a lot of insight on what to do with my other planned OC's as well. Thanks .
Anyways, this version of Ranmaru is just the prototype, so I guess I'll apply all this to her future full upgrade to give it the before/after effect.

Ah, yes as the robot becomes more advanced it becomes to resemble a person more. It's a solid idea.
