I think you only have four options about the transparency issues:

1. Delete any parts of the image sticking out past the stamp edges when it's finished. What I'd suggest is saving a version before and a version after the edit.
2. Download a program that will let you make transparent backgrounds
3. Ask someone else to do the transparencies for you
4. Set the background colour the same as the dA background

You could also get Fireworks, but that costs money
