I'd really appreciate any corrections in the dialogue since I'm Filipino and I'm not fluent in Spanish... ^^, Thank you!

This comic was based on two events that happened... One historical and one down right hilarious! XD

Historical reason for this comic:
The Spanish actually refused to teach the Filipinos (whom they called Indios*) the Spanish language. The friars in particular merely applied the old formula of cumplase which allowed non-compliance with the laws requiring them to teach the language. Although by royal decree the friars were required to teach the Spanish language to the natives, they reasoned that it would be easier for them to learn the local languages first than trying to teach Spanish to all the population. They also wanted to keep the natives "in the dark".

Hilarious reason for the making of this comic:
When my friend, who's also Filipino, went to Spain,he decided to converse with one of his Spanish friends. Since he just learned the language he decided to practice it.

(Their conversation in SPANISH)

"What do you like?" Asked the Spaniard
My friend replied, "I like puto**"
"Que horror!"

My friend: O_o ?

Later on my friend found out what Puto means in Spanish... XDDDD

*Filipinos were not called Filipinos during the Spanish Colonial period, they were called Indios. Only Spanish born in the Philippines were called Filipinos and not actually the natives themselves. It was Dr. Jose Rizal who started calling his fellow countrymen Filipinos.

** Puto- is Philippine steamed rice cake, eaten as is or with butter and/or grated fresh coconut or as accompaniment to a number of savory dishes for breakfast.
