Description Came up with new story stuff for my girl and changed her design accordingly. The changes being no star spots on her wings and an eye color change.
Here's the new lore stuff (still being developed so there may be changes later):
Amity now has a special ability. She was meant to hatch in full moonlight, as either a mind reader or a seer. But then the moon turned red, a lunar eclipse. Her silver egg turned pitch black and whatever powers she was meant to have were gone. When she hatched the usual NightWing start spots were gone too. When her father, a mind reader, went to pick her up, as soon as he touched her he felt his mind reading disappear. He couldn't hear any thoughts. Amity's own mind felt like it had sucked the power out of him. But it returned in full as soon as he dropped her. Her mother, a seer, didn't notice any effect at first, apart from that uncomfortable sucking feeling. But one day when she had a vision, little Amity went to comfort her. As soon as the dragonet touched her mother, her vision stopped abruptly. It didn't continue when Amity let go. But her mother did have visions in the future. Basically, Amity has the ability to nullify any moonborn NightWing ability when they are touching her. She's not actually draining their powers, just pausing them. This led to her parents keeping their distance from her, and wearing gloves if they absolutely had to touch her. Having her parents recoil from her as if she's gross or sick for the first part of her life didn't have the greatest effect. They convinced her that there's something wrong with her. When in reality this isn't exactly that bad. Amity's mind is completely unreadable. She doesn't show up in visions, and if she's supposed to there's a palpable gap where she should be. When she hatched Amity was given a cruel name. Starless. And she certainly feels abandoned by the stars and moons that the NightWings value so dearly. Amity is her chosen name. She chose it as a way to distance herself from her past and her 'curse', instead getting a positive name that meant the things she wanted in life- friendship and goodwill.
Her power isn't all negative though. She first discovered that it wasn't when she went to school and met Fearseer, the empath that didn't like being an empath. When he touched her suddenly the emotions of the surrounding dragons disappeared from his mind. For that brief moment, he could feel his own feelings. So naturally it was love at first sight. Or touch I guess. But Amity didn't return his love. Fearseer loved her for what she could do, how she could let him be himself for a bit, not as much for who she is as a person. And she's a lesbian so yeah. She rejected him, but he was mature about it. He decided he should know her better as a friend, and being friends doesn't exactly disallow cuddles. Also, when her and her sister Dreamseer (mind reader) got abandoned by their dad (their mom assassinated the queen and the shock made their dad want to completely start his life over) and taken in by a new, ordinary family, Dreamseer got to rethink what she's been told about Amity by her parents. Sometimes hearing everyone's thoughts would become too much for the dragonet, especially in crowded areas. She could have peace and quiet in Amity's arms. It was safe there. Though Dreamseer did have to get used to the sucking feeling of Amity's mind. Amity's family were nobility/high ranking, and valued their powers greatly. Thinking themselves superior to the unempowered common folk. So naturally it was disappointing when their daughter hatched without powers, when they did everything to ensure that she would. It was a bigger disappointment when she had that creepy ass ability of hers. But Amity wasn't left entirely without affection. They left her at daycares and such so she got to play and cuddle with the other dragonets and the caretakers. She eventually does start to own her power. She teases Dreamseer good naturedly that 'oooo, I'm so scary, I'm gonna steal your life force'. Basically pretended to be a vampire and chased her sister around the house, just as a fun game for them. Her parents did call her vampire in a derogatory way though. And when her parents thought of raising a claw at her, she'd get an incredibly smug look and go "yeah, you can't touch this can you? Thought so." And "go on, try me bitch. I'll suck out your soul." Her parents were disturbed and creeped out by her power. And by her spotless wings and creepy eyes.
I'm using the word sucking to describe how her mind feels to reference black holes. I made her eyes resemble them and her wings being pure black as well.
But none of this matters to anyone but an empowered NightWing. To them Amity is a regular NightWing with a little color mutation. If no one ever reacted to her ability, Amity would never know that she has it. She can't feel anything to do with it.
NightWings with Amity's ability are fairly rare. It requires them to hatch under a lunar eclipse when the moon is full.
Amity is resistant to mental manipulation magic and mind reading divination. She can just say no to mind control, or at least resist it better. She'd need less high rolls to succeed a save against it basically. Amity also blocks the NightWings' natural brainwave sensing abilities (normal NightWings can feel the presence of other living things nearby, as long as said creature has a brain).
