Actually, the theory I saw is that shadow bonnie is the purple guy's regret, based on the nature of his minigame in FNaF 3. 8-bitgaming talks about it in this video .

The living purple guy. You know how in the FNaF 3 death minigames, you walk around the pizzeria and see Shadow Freddy who leads you to the back room? He shouldn't have been able to do that unless someone was in him. So what you're seeing is the purple guy in the suit, leading the animatronics to the back room where they can't enter, then he quickly jumps out of the suit and charges out, dismantling the animatronics. That's honestly what I've been wondering, though my guess is that someone else found it and moved it. The other issue is that the games don't have a time stamp, so it's impossible to know how much time has passed. There is a lot to consider with these theories, and there are no theories that don't have their holes since Scott was so freaking vague with everything, leaving us to hope that he answers all the questions on Halloween, when the next game comes out.

But one must also consider that someone must have been in the suit because remember: the animatronics can't access the safe rooms and completely ignore it, as it isn't in their coding, and when Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy try to enter it, they are stopped and get an error, but Shadow Freddy can enter with no issue. Unless someone was in the suit, there is not way it could've gotten back there in the first place, which means someone must've used it and moved it at some point. Otherwise, I can't think of where the suit would've been unless it's a hallucination.

A ghost of a past employee makes sense, but that leads to the question of why he would lead the animatronics to the back room if he knew the purple guy was back there, and if the first time was an accident, why would he keep doing it if he knew what the outcome would be? So does this mean that this ghost has some sort of unpleasant history with the crew, and is working with the purple guy to dismantle them? Or is someone else actually in the suit? There has been some speculation that the purple guy and pink guy from the Foxy death minigame in FNaF2 are two separate people that might be working together, which could explain the missing Shadow Freddy suit in the 3rd game.

look shadow freddy is the ghost of the employer who died in the spring freddy suit after the spring lock faillurs. his body was taken out of the suit so thats why he can't posses it and why he only appears as a shadow of his former self. He knows what he is doing. He leads the animatronic to purple guys hiding place so that they would get dismantled. Knowing that it would free their souls from the suits.
