Description The stare of a female Harris' Hawk.

I like it, because it is in focus. This bird was kind enough to let me get close in order to take this picture.

Just set this as a new wallpaper on my desktop... it's awesome! (perfect shape for a 16:9 screen too!)

Woaaah that's a cool shot!! I like her stare, it's very...intense. One of the reasons why I absolutely adore raptors.

Love the off centre look. And, as always, you've got great subjects at hand. And a co-operative one too.
Clear and simplicstic. Perfection.

Thanks! Yeah, I prefer it when the subject fills the page, gives more of a sense of power IMO. I don't always have subjects as co-operative and close at hand as her though - most are silly falcons who think everything is terrifying. UNless they've got a hood on. But I prefer it when the hood's off so you can see their eyes.

Thanks! X

Thankyou! Unfortunately, like many of my photos, the focus was all down to luck lol...

Wow, this is lovely. I very much like the intensity and focus that is conveyed in this picture. How were you able to get so close to the hawk?

Thankyou! And thanks for the favourite. Yeah, I think I was lucky with this shot because I got about a million others which weren't half as good! lol I have a lot to learn. Harrises have a brilliant stare though. I'm glad I finally got a photo of it.

This particular hawk was in our living room while we were training her for a friend. We were "manning" her at the time: getting her used to all the sights and sounds, and lots of different people. I think this was the third or fourth day that she had been taken in hand, so she had gone from completely unused to humans to totally accepting me to come this close, in 3 days. She was actually lying down while I was taking this picture, so I knew she was completely relaxed! Harrises are well-known for being relatively easy to train, but they're not normally this easy lol!
