Description I just felt the need to express my concerns about the slander pressed upon people who suffer mental illnesses. What you think may be a silly joke can be a huge deal for another person.

People with mental illnesses are capable of leading decent lives, afterall. We are not crazy.

i have about 7 diagnosed mental disorders and have to deal with ableist jokes in my home everyday anyway. you know, pill jokes, retard jokes and the like. it's really disgusting what the world is coming to.

i'm also trans, which is apparently considered a mental illness.......

It's called gender disphoria, and it is a mental condition.

I've been called crazy, stupid, attention whore, cry-baby, and all these other things just because of my problems. I have anxiety and depression. I can live a decent life, but, I'll say that it's not easy. Socializing with people is difficult, but I don't let that push me down. I just find it really rude when people say that towards people with problems like that. We can't help it.

Thank you so much, I've been referred to as "crazy" or even worse "retarded" a good chunk of my life and it's damaged me pretty badly, and I've even had people treat me like I was just because I was different and suffered from depression, social anxiety, and ADHD, as well as having Asperger's syndrome. Now I go to a special school away from those people, but it was as if I escaped from an abusive relationship and no longer know what to do with myself.

I suffer depression, and I highly suspect I may suffer Bipolar Disorder (I get panic and anxiety attacks very suddenly and it can make me start crying), and I feel lowly of myself and consider myself the least valuable human being in the world; I practically hate myself. This is when I realized I'm depressed, especially if I go to the store to buy chocolate, and it has begun to happen more often. I just started visiting a psychologist on a weekly basis, too.

I'm not proud of this, oh no. It's really mentally exhausting and you just wish you could shut down your mind just to stop thinking. I really want to be happy and content, so I'm jealous when people are. My family is wonderful, all to my parents to my siblings, to my grandparents and so on. So when I think I'm not grateful, then those self-degrading thoughts take over.

I'm not insane, I'm just really, really sad, and I've a mental disorder that has to do with my learning skills, not sanity itself. There is a fine line between these things. I just wish people could see that more often. Insane is when you start to think irrationally, scare people, or think of hurting someone. You don't do that when you're depressed or alike. You're too caught up in your own feelings to really think of anyone else (that's the deal with me, at least).

I have ADHD and I totally agree. I'm able to manage my life quite normal, actually. My best friend has Schizophrenia and the poor girl gets commented on how crazy her mind must be. She's just very sensitive and intelligent. It's not like the stereotypical idea of being mental where they're like "ZOMG!!! I HURD VOICES!! TAKEZ MEH TO TEH HOSPITAL!!! I'M GUNNA DIE!!" It's simply a different way of our brain being wired.Β

C-C-Corone [2011-08-03 23:59:29 +0000 UTC]

So true, so true.

I'm suffering from multiple mental disorders, and all of them makes me go through hell, but I'm not crazy. The worst thing is that not only do some people think that just because I have BPD, I'm gonna stab them with a knife because I'm some crazy bitch, or think that just because I'm depressed I while go kill myself, but my psychiatrist and psychologist treat me like a retarded 5-year old. They always seem suprised when I show that I am an intelligent person, not a stupid moron who doesn't understand anything about my illnesses.

It's especially difficult when you suffer from psychotic problems. Trying to explain that you feel like people are staring at you or going to attack you every time you leave the house, or that you imagine demons and scary creatures in the darkness instantly slaughter all credibility in you.

In fact, I often act a lot crazier than I am. By saying that, "yeah, sure, I'm a fucking lunatic", I feel that I take the power from those who try to use it against me, and thus I refuse to become a victim. This may not work for everyone, but to me, it makes me feel more in control.
