I have noticed a lot of friends who are also artists often tell me how much their art stinks, and how they wish they could get better.

As you can see, I have also been there. I have a very firm NO stance on extremely toxic self deprecation, especially when it comes to art. You CAN do better, if you believe in yourself and practice. Don't let anyone and anything stop you from becoming better. It might not be an overnight change or switch.. But it can be steady if you try your best.

I am not claiming to be at my peak, because I am not. I still have much to learn and much to improve and that's okay. There are times as an artist that you feel really crappy over your art, ( as I was over the "before" in this picture) and it can be pretty upsetting to see your "mental" view of a piece NOT completely translate onto the paper, screen, or any other media.

If you go about your improvement in a negative/toxic way, you will never be happy with your drawing. However, if you do feel angry and hate a drawing you made, try to focus that hate and channel it into your personal improvement. Ideally, you would try to stay as positive as you can though.

YOU ARE allowed to like your work!
YOU ARE allowed to feel proud of your accomplishments.
YOU ARE allowed to feel fulfilled and happy with your improvement, with your technique.

YOU WILL look back eventually and think, WOW! I have come a long way. And that will be a GREAT FEELING.

You have improved, you will keep improving and who cares if your art isn't like sakimichan's work or ilya's or artgerm's, and many others? They got to where they are with hundreds of practice hours.

You are you, and this is your journey.

You can be the artist you wish to become, but it all depends on you.
