18 was born for the LS&I (Lake Superior and Ishpeming) to haul heavy iron ore trains to the docks where big ships were loaded. Other engines, such as 19 and 33, also were 2-8-0's that worked on the railroad. The LS&I held on to steam a little bit longer than other railroads, but, the end was still near. 18 was retired and given to the Grand Canyon Railroad, until he was given to the Rio Grande Scenic, and 19, 18's sister, took his spot. I believe 18's slowly being overhauled.

No 18? I've never known about this engine till now. It looks so beautiful, and with the sun setting, it certainly looks grand in the setting sun's light.

#18 was built by ALCo in January 1910 for the Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad as their #11. She was renumbered in 1923 to #18 and continued to serve the LS&I up until July 1963 when she was retired and sold to Marquette & Huron Mountain Railroad and was later sold to the Ishpeming Steel Company in January 1985. She was then sold to the Lake States Steam Association in June 1985 and later sold to the Grand Canyon Railroad in 1989 where it hauled excursion trains. In 2007 when the new owner of the Grand Canyon Railroad cut back steam operations due to the budget, #18 was sold to the Mount Hood Railroad in April 2007 and later wound up on the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad on January 31st, 2008 where she operates today.

There's an old Johnny Cash song about a home-made Cadillac made from so many different parts that the title was a mess of paperwork. Since this old thing has been bought and sold so many times the "title" is probably a mile long haha.
